"You have everything for New York?" Finn asked bitterly as he stood stiffly in the basement. It was almost too real, Sophia and Sadie were moving out and a strange omega that made his alpha weird was replacing them. It was almost as if Finn didn't believe Sophia when she told him a week ago the couple was moving out.

"Yep!" Sophia chirped happily, she moved a box slowly to the other half of the room where another pile sat. When Finn sniffed the air he almost reeled back in surprise, Sadie's scent was giving off a musky protective tone. The quieter alpha usually never let her scent change except for occasionally when she was happy or proud, but to get protective over her girlfriend moving a box was practically a new language to the sweet alpha girl.

"Where's Jack?" Sadie asked, as she subtlety took the packing scissors away from Sophia.

"Upstairs with Rich, why?" Sophia asked, puffing her cheeks out in a pout as she picked up the scissors again.

Sadie simply shrugged in response, "i was just curious, he's an...odd one."

Finn's alpha growled protectively but he quickly hushed it. "Why do you say that?" He asked, his tone almost too nonchalant.

"He's very skittish..." Sadie answered.

"Now that you say it, he is," Sophia admitted. "He seemed very upset when I told him if Finn was being mean to just tell him to shove it."

"What?" Finn asked in a grumpy tone.

"Do you think his alpha abused him?" Sadie asked, her own skin crawling at the mention of an omega being abused.

"It's possible..." Sophia mumbled, trailing off. "He did say he came from his own difficult situation." Finn's alpha growled louder at the
possibility.

"Oh..." Finn grumbled as he continued to struggle to find the end of the clear packing tape. Sophia rolled her eyes at Finn while Sadie looked at him with a sad hint to her pale green eyes.

-upstairs-

Jack shook Richie's toy in his face before pulling it away with a gasp. Richie giggled reaching out for the blue puppy. "Peek-a-BOO!" Jack shouted thrusting the stuffed blue puppy dog back into his face. Richie burst out into giggles once again holding his arms out for the blue stuffed animal.

"Ahem." Jack froze and looked up to see Finn standing behind him.

"Oh! Sorry, did you want to play with him?" Jack asked gesturing to Richie who was staring at Finn with his mouth wide open.

"Oh-uh no thank you," Finn dismissed going to turn on his heels back to his office.

"Please?"

Finn slowly turned around and stared dumbstruck at the omega who still sat on his knees. "Sorry?"

"Please come play with Richie..." jack mumbled, trailing off shyly. Finn huffed and before he could talk himself out of it his feet naturally carried him towards the slobbering monster. Jack beamed as if he had just seen his own pup present. "He likes peek-a-boo," Jack informed, handing off the blue puppy. Richie still stared at Finn as if he was a stranger, and somewhere in Finn's heart that hurt,

Finn heaved himself onto his knees, in the same stance that Jack's in. He hesitated before thrusting the stuffed animal into the babies face. Richie's lips quirked into a smile but the pup didn't laugh like he had with Jack. Feeling himself deflate, Finn shoved the toy back to Jack and went to get up. "You didn't say peek-a-boo!"

"What?" Finn inquired, his hand already planted on his knee to get up.

"If you want him to laugh, you have to say peek-a-boo!" Jack enthused, "see watch!"

"Peek-a-," Jack paused for a dramatic effect as he hid the toy behind his back. "-BOO!" Jack threw the stuffed dog into Richie's face and the pup burst into fits of laughter.

"See! Now you go!" Jack smiled, handing Finn the stuffed animal again.

"Fine," he muttered.

"Don't be so grumpy! You're playing with a pup!"

Finn simply grunted and tried to loosen his muscles. "Peek-a-bOO!" Finn thrusted the dog into Richie's face and as if it was like magic the chubby cheeked pup fell over from laughing so hard. Deciding he didn't like that, Richie made angry grunts and flailed his arms in a fuss.

"Oh, Bee! You're fine," Jack giggled as he crouched forward to get into Richie's face. Finn watched in silent amazement as Richie moved from angry huffy cries to small heaving giggles.

"What?! Why were you crying?" Jack cooed as he splayed his hands out through Richie's short curls. Richie gurgled enthusiastically at Jack before his giggles dissolved and he simply stared at him, mouthing out some soundless noise.

Finn watched in silence. The discomfort that swirled in his chest was not because of Jack playing with his pup, it was the fact his pup knew him no more than a stranger. Deciding it was enough for today, Finn pulled himself up onto his feet, his legs went numb at the new blood flow. The grumpy alpha staggered to his office only to once again get no work done.

"Your daddy is an odd one, bee," Jack mumbled smacking two kisses to the pup's slobbery cheeks in an attempt to ignore the protective scent that lingered after the alpha.
