BB-8 accompanied Poe Dameron on his walk back toward the sleeping quarters after their big victory.
"You know what, my wife's supposed to give birth this week. I dunno if my son's out yet," said Poe. BB-8 asked a question in a series of concerned beeps.
"How do I feel? Yeah? I'm excited. And nervous. I've had two girls, I don't know how to handle a boy."
BB-8 gave a suggestion with long bloops that ended in a lower intonation.
"Haha! Alright. You better come with me to Yavin 4. Do astromechs have leaves too?" Poe mused. "I'll ask if I can take you."
BB-8 gave a series of fast-paced beeps, revealing his excitement. He popped out his lighter and gave Poe a thumbs-up. Poe smiled, then pumped his fist down.
"Yes! My girls will love you. The younger one has a knack for technology, she likes building all sorts of things, and sometimes taking stuff apart and learning how they work and putting 'em back together. Ah, but don't worry, I won't let her damage you," he laughed.
Then, they both stopped in front of the door which led to the soldiers' bunks. Lights would be out in five. Poe kneeled down to see BB-8 eye to eye.
"Okay, see you in the morning, buddy," he said. "Thanks for serving with me. I'm glad we're both still alive."
Poe walked inside towards his bunk, and turned to see BB-8 still standing there.
"Oh, yes. Goodnight, BB-8!"
In reply, he gave a soft whirring sound, then rolled away to the droid room. Poe smiled again, and he changed from his orange jumpsuit into more comfortable sleep clothes. After using the restroom, he dived into the first real bed he'd had since a long time. He looked forward to going back home, even for a while. Suddenly, he heard something roll into the hall and reach his bedside. The lights went out, but the outer hall's light illuminated a small, round figure before the main door closed.
"Joining me here, buddy?" he said. "Alright. I bet tomorrow will be a new adventure. For you and I."
