~~~Dawn's P.O.V.~~~
Her last words swirled around in my head like a raging storm. Over and over they repeated themselves. They were getting louder and louder, blaring like a tornado siren. Drowning out all off my other thoughts. Over and over, round and round, again and again. They wouldn't stop. I couldn't stop them no matter how much I tried. They were engulfing my body. It felt as if I was under water. I tried to scream but no sound came out.
"Dawn. Dawn! Wake up, Sweetie. Dawn!" A soft, sweet, voice coaxed me.
My eyes flew open and the sight of my room flooded my eyes. I gasped and swallowed in a large gulps of air. I was laying in sweat drenched pajamas. My eyes darted frantically around the room before landing on my mom.
"It's okay! It was just a dream!" My mom assured me, her face glowing with a warm and empathetic smile.
I suddenly burst out crying. Mom quickly embraces me in a tight, comforting, hug. She know how rough it's been on me since.... the incident. After a few moments I was able to pull myself together. She lets go of me once I stop sobbing. I gave her a weak smile.
Mom stands up too before saying, "Better start getting ready for school."
I nod and go over to my dresser to pick an outfit. I finally decided on some black ripped jeans a gray tee with a plaid button up shirt, which I left undone, and a plain black beanie. After making sure I look half-way decent in the mirror I make my way downstairs to the kitchen.
Mom had made some bacon and eggs for breakfast. I piled a few pieces of crisp bacon and a scoop of scrambled egg before popping a bagel in the toaster. I start shoveling eggs into my mouth.
"Wow! Slow down there, vacuum! You don't have to inhale your food. It's not going to get up and run away!" Mom teases me.
"I know! But if I don't hurry the bus will run away!" I retaliate.
She chuckle and I finish the eggs on my plate. The bagel pops up from the toaster and mom grabs it and starts spreading cream cheese on it.
"Actually I have a little surprise for you! You see," She begins excitement evident in her voice, "I know how hard it's been on you since... the incident and with the move, too. So I thought I'd get you this!"
For a brief moment I'm confused but then I see her dangling a pair of keys in front of her. I can feel my eyes widen like saucer inside their sockets. My mouth drops open.
"Well, don't just stand there!" Mom urges as she places the keys in my hand and closes my mouth.
"OMG! How? When? Where?" I was overwhelmed with disbelief.
Mom just smiled at my overflowing excitement. I dart outside side and I look at the driveway. But to my surprise there was no knew car. I glance back at Mom, who had followed me outside, with a puzzled expression covering my facial features.
"I couldn't park it in the driveway or you would have seen it. It's down around the corner." She explained nodding her down the street.
I gave her a quick hug and told her, "I got to go. I can't be late for school!"
I raced down the street toward where she said she'd parked it. As I neared the corner I saw the car. It was a 2018 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon! And it was blue!!! I immediately hopped in the driver's seat and cranked the engine. It starts with a loud purr. I'm already in love with it.
As I cruised down the street I had some time to think. I thought about our move from home. I thought about school. I thought about my mom. I thought about my new Jeep. I thought about anything but her. I couldn't think about her. It hurt to much.
