Kaia Salvatore is the youngest daughter of Zach Salvatore. When Damon kills him, he decides to raise Kaia instead of sending her to an orphanage. But when the Originals return to Mystic Falls, they recognize Kaia as their youngest sister.

The sound of small feet running along the wooden floor above was the only indicator that the smallest Salvatore was awake and ready to cause havoc in the small town that was Mystic Falls.
Damon and Stefan were currently in the parlor, arguing over what to do about the Original family, but they quickly stopped talking once Kaia ran into the room in her pajamas. "There's my little monkey! You're up late today."
She walked up to Damon and pulled on the collar of his button-down when he held her on his hip. "Koda and Shadow were being mean to each other."
Stefan sighed at the mention of the pets they'd both gifted her for her 4th birthday. Shadow was a black kitten Stefan had found at the local animal shelter, and Koda was a Saint Bernard puppy Damon had bought from a farm several towns away. Both of the Salvatore brothers had made a competition of it and had refused to tell each other the gifts they'd bought Kaia. So, now they were stuck with two pets that belonged to a four-year-old, who wasn't old enough to properly care for them.

"We bought beds for the both of them, so why do you keep letting them sleep in your bed, Bambina?"
Kaia pouted, kicking her legs lightly. "They get lonely! And it's dark and cold at night all by their selves."
