~The Noble Mikaelson~

"We are bound forever to those with whom we share blood. And while we may not choose our family, that bond can be our greatest strength or our deepest regret."

Elijah Mikaelson was a formidable, nearly-indomitable man. The eldest, currently-living Mikaelson was a noble, honest man who treated most people with respect. He was a private, family-oriented man who wouldn't hesitate to tear out hearts or bitchslap heads off if challenged or threatened.

Elijah was often underestimated because he was the peacekeeper of his family, but this was a man that often went head-to-head with his brother Niklaus, the most powerful being on the planet. This ancient and powerful vampire, whose very presence shook the members of the supernatural community, apparently also had a soft spot for kids.

His first meeting with the Salvatores would have most definitely ended in horrible bloodshed if not for the adorable, wildly-curly-haired girl clutching the blue-eyed menace's hand. There was no fear in her eyes as she stared up at the vampires towering over her, only curiosity and a hint of apprehension.

He'd been summoned by the troublesome brothers in a feeble attempt to pry more information about the sacrifice out of him. He had to give them credit for the bravery and determination to keep their loved ones from danger, but they were far too cocky and demanding to show the Original the respect he deserved.

"While I can appreciate the sentiment behind your interrogation, gentlemen, I can't say I'm too fond of the insinuation that I owe any kind of explanation to you. I've told Ms. Gilbert everything that she needs to know for the time being, and when I decide the time is right, I will share with her anything she wants to know about her place in the ritual.

Now, I will not repeat myself again. I am an Original, I've been alive almost ten times as long as either of you, and you will show me respect. If not I can guarantee our next meeting will be much different."

The oldest vampire's threat hung in the air for a quiet minute, and the toddler used that tense silence to move away from her family. She ran around the coffee table, stopping close enough that her tiny ballet flats brushed his Oxfords, and pulled on his pants.

He hesitated, unsure. Children and animals had a better sense of self-preservation, so they tended to avoid his family like the plague, but this little girl held no fear as she impatiently patted his knee.

A deep chuckle escaped him as her patting turned into urgent little punches, and knelt down. She was a beautiful little girl, with thick honey-colored hair that bounced around her with every movement, and fell into her eyes. Eyes that vaguely reminded him of a puppy and held a hint of the blues and greens he'd seen in the eyes of both brothers behind her.

"What can I do for you, Milady?"

She giggled, and he couldn't stop the genuine smile that spread across his face at the sound. Her laugh was as adorable as she was and she rested her small hand on his shoulder with a dramatic sigh. "Listen, mister. You can hurt them, but not bad. D makes vampy-cakes and Stiffy is nice even though he frowns a lot."

Elijah pulled her hand into his, holding it like she was a princess. It was so tiny, and he almost cooed at her darkening cheeks and shy smile before he was able to control himself. "Stiffy?"

"D says Steffy has a stick in his ass, but I'm not allowed to say ass because it's a bad word."

Damon guffawed, and Elijah couldn't contain his laughter at her innocence. Stefan let out a huff, trying to hide his amusement as he collapsed on the couch. "And yet you still said it. You're lucky you're cute."
