"hello ma'am," brandon respectfully greeted the older woman, his smile coming off as natural as possible, even though he was nervous beneath it all.
the boys had just drove into town and had been sitting in a rental for the past couple minutes, arguing on who should go get zakia. and instead of going as a group, brandon just decided to get it over with. he remembers zakia talking about how stubborn and judegemental her mother could be, which is why he tried his best to act natural.
her mother looked him up and down, "second door up the srairs to the right," she stepped aside, "zakia should be in there,"
brandon hurried in and basically scurried up the stairs to find zakia walking right into the room. her face lit up once she seen his face, and opened her arms for a hug.
"i'm almost ready, i just need to pack my dinner outfit and what not," she said, bringing him along into her room. it was quite messy due to a couple possible outfit changes, but other than that, it was actually nice and simple.
"what the hell is that," he pointed to rufus. zakia smacked her lips, throwing a fit into a duffle bag.
"that's my baby, now let's go," she said as she patted down her pockets to make sure her phone was there along with her charger.
she left out the room with brandon close behind, shouting to her mom that she was leaving.
as soon as she got outside, she could see zion's smiling face sticking out the car window. she laughed, shoving her bags into brandon's hands and jogging over to the car window to peck his lips which he happily let happen.
"y'all are so fuckin' cute," nick sniffled, wiping away fake tears. zakia chuckled, opening the car which forced zion to push edwin over.
"zakia is smaller, so she should get in the middle, cause no way in hell is zion about to fit his lo-" nick was about to go off before zion reached back to slap the bill of his hat down.
"well hurry up, it's fucking cold," zakia rushed, letting zion climbed out before getting in. it didn't bother her at all that edwin was next to her.
"hey austin," she greeted to which he glanced up at the mirror from the passenger seat to wink at her.
"hey best friend," she gave nick a, you already know what's going on look. he responded back quickly with the exact same thing, wiggling his finger tips at her. he sat in the back trunk on a low profile so he wouldn't get caught.
"hey edwin," she muttered, fixing her seatbelt around her waist.
"hey," he pretended to not be offended at the dry ass hello, but he knew he initially deserved it.
"we have a long ass time till the reservation at the cheescake factory so me and nick wantt to take you to the mall real quick," zion said, tossing her arm over her shoulders.
zakia smacked her lips, "i said i didnt want anything guys," she whined.
"to bad," brandon reached under the drivers seat, pulling out a little gift bag and handed it to her, then pulled off from the drive way to head to the nearest mall he had up on the gps.
zakia frowned, taking the bag anyway.
she took the yellow tissue paper out and the first thing she noticed was a folded up t-shirt. the second thing was a birthday card.
she wasn't going to open it completely till zion pulled the card out and opened it up. zakia pouted at the four twenty dollar bills that fell onto his lap.
"i didn't know what to get you so i had my girlfriend help me and we stalked your instagram to see your style so she managed to find that vintage merch tee. i wanted to get you another thing but i had no idea so i just slipped in fourty bucks and she gave you the other fourty," he told her.
"awe, you guys are so sweet," she smiled, "tell her i said thanks,"
"here you go," austin reached his hand back to reveal another fourty bucks.
"ugh," she took the money, dropping it in her lap, "thank you guys so much," she expected the gift rampage to wnd seeing as zion and nick already mentioned they were taking her to the mall and her and edwin weren't on good terms.
but, he pulled out a small jewelry box and handed it to her.
without words, she took it and opened it to reveal a thick ring band with a diamond line around the center.
"wow," she muttered, slipping it on her right ring finger. "thank you edwin," she gave him a genuine smile to which he returned.
"no problem,"
zakia took the hundred and fourty bucks, tucking it into her boot and crumpled the tissue paper to put it bag into the bag. she handed it to nick who put it in the back where he sat.
"i love y'all," she smiled.
"i love you more," zion cooed so annoyingly, nuzzling his nose into her cheek. she instantly shoved him away in a joking matter.
"love you too," brandon and austin said at the same time, then brandon yelling the word jinx right after.
"love you too best friend," nick kissed his finger tips then tapped her twice on the twice making her roll her eyes and laugh.
"i love you too blondie," edwin said last, chuckling at the nickname.
zakia gave him a look, trying not to smile, but once he flashed her a goofy grin, she laughed.
