Aella led me to her cabin and sat me down on an extra bed. She sat on another across from me, resting her elbows on her knees. I shifted uncomfortably in the ill-fitting clothes, my still wet hair dripping onto my arms.
"Yeah, we can get you some better clothes later, but it's the best I could find on short notice. How did you get here, anyway? You were sort of a mess." she said, laughing quietly. I gave her a brief explanation as she threw her short hair back into a ponytail.
"So, what is this place? I still haven't exactly gotten a formal explanation." I asked.
"Well, in short, one of your parents is a Greek god that decided to fuck a mortal. Basically you are caught somewhere in between mortal and god, which we like to call a demigod. Your godly parent will claim you eventually, could be today, could be years from now. You said you lived with your dad, right? That means your mom will claim you as her own. There is all kinds of shit in the real world that is quite a hazard to us, so a lot of demigods stick around camp. It's safe here." she smiled slightly. Hardly any of this made sense, but my dad wanted me at camp, so I figured I ought to give it a chance. Aella stood up and moved over to the door, motioning for me to follow. She led me outside the cabin and stopped in front of another.
"This is the Hermes cabin, where you'll be staying for the time being. It's a little... yeah. But you'll get used to it, really." She pushed the door open, giving me a quick glimpse inside before she let it fall shut again. Aella started walking again, and I trailed a few feet behind, feeling by damp hair swing behind me. She was talking, but I could hardly hear. She was pointing, but I couldn't tell what to. So I stopped paying attention. Instead, I just kept walking, focusing on Aella's feet as she moved. She took quick, short steps and her feet turned outward ever so slightly. She wore black sneaker like shoes that reminded me of the Vans I had back home, but weren't quite the same. Just as I started to zone out, a quick flash of light struck me back into focus. Aella kept walking, so I did too, but I was very confused as to what I just saw. Looking around I saw nothing but a wide eyed boy stepping out of a cabin.
"Aella! AELLA!" the boy yelled, waving his arms to get her attention. She stopped walking and glared at him.
"What do you want, Darren?! I'm a little busy, if you haven't noticed." She yelled back. I saw the boy pointing at me, and Aella spun on her heel to face me, sighing. She looked just over my head and her lips curled into a smile.
"Congratulations, newbie. And you didn't even have to spend a night in the Hermes cabin."
