It was a failure. An awful and messy failure. The plan from the beginning had been to capture Plum, Timothy and York so that the whole town could be transformed. With the cooperation the town showed and the problem with sending many creatures with eyesight problems culminated in a failure and now Francis and Jasmine were paying the price. With the desperation more and more creatures were sent down into Forestville. Eventually even the dragons were unleashed but the only person not transformed they were able to retrieve was York. Whom as you may remember is actually a spy who was sent down to Forestville by Chief. Really, The Unknown was starting to seem suspicious it may have been an accident but the fact that they left the speaker for the meeting on for so long was just too convenient.
So, Chief knew it had to do something about this, so it called The Unknown up one day to prove them as an example. What it had not expected is for The Unknown to fight back and what a fight it was. The Unknown dashed around the government office throwing filing cabinets and boiling coffee at Chief chile Chief used dust to control many of the other office workers to attack The Unknown for it. Jasmine managed to notice what Chief was doing and retreated down to the lower segments of the government and warn them. The whole plan had gone haywire and Jasmine wanted to salvage what she could before it went any worse. So, without anybody noticing she picked up the cage containing Marissa and went on a plane to escape. Escape everything. She was headed to Greenland.
"Passport please," the airport clerk asked, it was early in the morning and the whole airport was feeling it. After the transformation toxin everyone was trying to get out of the country not knowing whether or not it had affected the whole world or not people were willing to take the risk. The airport clerks transformations were usually gargoyle based so that they could fly and give any luggage people forgot to them, even as they were on the airplane! That's how fast the wings could go.
"Here you go, mine and hers," Jasmine handed over the 2 passports with Marissa laying on Jasmine's shoulder. As soon as she returned from Forestville, Marissa had been one of the most energetic people in the room she took her anger for being captured out on the room until Chief effortlessly snapped her out of it with a spray of another gas similar to the transformation toxin but for a precise 12 hour knockout. The pair seemed a bit suspicious in the airport, but with the large quantity of monsters behind them, they appeared the most normal in the whole group.
"Relationship."
"Were friends, just going on a quick trip to get out of this craziness," Jasmine gestured to the holes in the airport walls and the towering golems standing behind her.
"Your sleeping compatriot has to sign a waiver since you said that you were bringing fruit and goods at the other station," The airport clerk explained and immediately all the colour from Jasmine's face vanished.
"Sign..."
"Just wake her up so the rest of the line can go,"
Meanwhile, Martin had organized a scout team to try and search for Marissa using any leads they could. The first one they tried seemed pretty foolproof and that was to follow the signal that broadcast the original meeting. Even with the controlled internet of forestville some things like IP Addresses stayed the same and scanners were given to everyone on the scout team, although Ms. Yamaha quickly threw hers away in favor of following the rest of the group and playing on her phone some more. In fact, in the middle of the excursion the started calling one of her other teacher friends.
"So what did you turn into, disappointingly I was turned into some kind of stone creature," Ms. Yamaha proclaimed into the phone speaker. It seemed that in all the chaos, cellular towers had stayed surprisingly alright. Fighting the urge to slap the phone out of his old teachers hand, Martin kept the troop walking. It turns out that they were about to walk into a fight, but in a different kind of way. Two carts came from the side with black covering the majority and 2 streaks of neon green and pink were lined across both of them.
In the carts there were 2 grey creatures with black inky reticent eyes that covered their face like makeup smears strung across a gooey sponge cake. They both had stringy long legs with bendy ends that curled in on themselves resembling tentacles, both drivers were also covered in spores particularly around their legs. Ms. Yamaha was the first to react to the oncoming drivers with the reaction you would get hearing the fire alarm after just winning the olympics. The driver to the left of Ms. Yamaha slid across the slick and dusty road of ash and pulp spraying a gas weapon that seemed to be an advanced form of pepper spray that worked mentally. Instead of simply hurting your eyes, the spray made you believe for a short time that it was physically impossible to open them.
The right person in the black, green and purple cart was the one they all truly had to worry about though as they had a crossbow with bullets resembling old fashioned darts but were nevertheless covered with copper and aluminum. The crossbow was designed to fire this bullets at slower speeds to make as little noise as possible with literal gunfire. That way, it was extremely difficult for the group to hear the bullets as they went whizzing towards their heads. Martin and Plum imagined that if Geoffrey was here he could attract the bullets towards him before releasing the attraction and getting out of the way as to save the group, but he had been left back at Forestville.
"Were surrounded, and we can't see! What is this," Timothy called out to the group. He had decided to put on his sunhat he had recently bought for this occasion, but it just made the situation all the more awkward. Timothy had been off in his own head, thinking about how he should spend the next hiking trip when the gas was released and it put him in a bad mood to be released from the fantasy. The entire situation had agitated him to the point where he started running trying to find a cart just so that he could try and blindly slap at the driver for doing this to him. As you could probably assume, he had to such look.
It turns out the first shot was just a warning shot and the 2 cart drivers began circling around the group so that they could continue shooting and the driver with the gas switched to a scoped shotgun that detected both heat and cold signatures. If Martin could see the group now he would have been utterly terrified, the next shot hit him in the left knee and nearly hit the blue imp who seemed to be the one clearly handling the situation the best. The blue imp had been able to detect the drivers location through bumps on the ground since the carts were making skid marks against the shallow ash ground. Now that the blue imp had found the drivers circle all it took was to jump when the carts make a slightly higher sound; it almost sounded like the driver was hitting the brakes.
"Please stop this, we come in peace and don't have any resources or weapons on us," the blue imp proposed to the cart driver directly ahead, the one holding the heat seeking gun.
"You think just because you don't have a weapon doesn't mean you aren't dangerous, that's the funniest joke I heard al' day," the driver responded with an australian accent that they were badly attempting to disguise. Either that or they were trying to simulate an australian accent and didn't have one to begin with.
"Alright, you asked for it!" The blue imp responded widening an already decently sizeable grin and charging at the first driver. The cart was impaled with a cool impact of ice that froze every inch of it and made it weak even to a light touch. The charge continued breaking the entire cart leaving only the grey driver lying on the ash ground feeling utterly shocked at the entire event. Martin was still feeling the impact from the recent shot directly to his knee and was starting to cry out in agony. Luckily, Plum had managed to paddle her way through the human ocean in front of her to Martin and was already carrying a first aid kit just in case. Through touch and feel alone she applied bandages the best she could to the knee. That was until she accidentally put one of the bandages in Martin's mouth.
The blue imp took care of the other driver's cart as quickly as the first one and they both ran away at least for now. The blue imp tried to subdue Timothy's aimless flailing in anger but it was difficult since nobody could see. In the end, the moment that was truly the most difficult wasn't the the battle itself, but the 50 minutes afterwards of walking practically blind. Although, personally Martin would argue that it was when he saw the bandage that Plum applied.
"You thought that was my knee,"
