School. Oh how I hate it. Especially now that my father is a wanted criminal for child abuse, I will literally be the center of attention for months.

As Matthew pulled into the school parking lot, I wished I stayed at the Tarran's.

"Do I have to go in?"

I asked, whining.

Matthew laughed.

"Yes you do. Besides, they're not going to be only looking at you."

"If only that helped."

He pushed me out of the car, grabbing my bag for me. I laughed, though that quickly died when I noticed everyone staring.

"Matthew..."

He glanced up from the car, looking around.

"Don't stare at them, come and walk with me."

Matthew handed me my bag and as I slid it onto my shoulder, Matthew slipped his arm around my shoulders.

"They're going to stare even more."

I whispered. Matthew looked down at me, smirking.

"We better give them something to stare at if they're going to."

I laughed, grabbing the strap of my backpack. We walked into the school, and literally every eye turned to us. Whispers of my dad and Matthew's ex could be heard as we walked.

"We should ditch school today."

Matthew whispered.

"Yeah right. My grades suck, so I can't miss."

"I'll have to get my friend Greg to tutor you, he excels at every class."

We walked towards my locker, grabbing my books.

"Kara?!"

I heard Ivy behind me, turning to her.

"Hey Ivy!"

"Why didn't you tell me?!"

"I wanted to, but-"

I noticed everyone around us starting to listen, so I pulled Ivy into the girl's bathroom.

"I wanted to but I couldn't. If he found out...he found out my grandmother knew and went to throw me off a bridge. What do you think he would have done if someone I wasn't related to knew?!"

"You're right. I'm glad you weren't thrown off a bridge. Anyways, what's with you and Matthew?"

I rolled my eyes at her.

"He's letting me stay with him and his family. Nothing is happening."

I walked to the mirror to fix my hair, watching Ivy smirk in the mirror.

"Well I know you liked him..."

"Liked Ivy. It was freshman year anyways. Besides, he only knows I exist because of this. He's still getting over his ex anyways."

"You sound like you're making excuses so you don't have to say you like him."

"Ivy!"

I exclaimed, rolling my eyes. She held her hands up,

"Just saying."

The warning bell rang and we rushed to our lockers. Matthew was still waiting for me there, although he looked annoyed.

"What's wrong?"

I asked.

"Nothing."

He said, and handed me my bag. I quickly grabbed my books and headed to class.

---

I walked into to class and I wished I had one with Matthew. I found a seat all the way in the back, thank goodness, and quickly made my way to it.

I sat my stuff down, pulled out my books and prayed no one would talk go me.

"Hey is that her?"

"Yeah it is."

"Wow."

I could hear the two guys beside me talking, the one closest to me kept glancing over.

"What do you think she did to make her dad do that?"

"I don't-"

I turned my head to them, irritated.

"Excuse me but it's none of your business to talk about my family problems. Y'all can shut your mouths because you don't know what it was like at all. If I hear you talking about it again, I will show you what it feels like to have a baseball bat hit you."

I turned back to my work, feeling their gazes on me.

---

We walked into the parking lot, the awkward school day over with. Matthew tossed me his back pack, laughing. I opened the side door and put the bags in when I heard talking.

"Matthew please, you have to hear me out."

"What is there to hear? You were screwing my best friend. I don't want you to come near me again."

I closed the door, walking to Matthew. Gabriella stood in front of him, tears in her eyes.

"Is there a problem?"

I asked, putting my hands on my hips. Gabriella looked at me, and quickly I saw desperation turn to jealousy.

"And you are?"

"No one to you. C'mon Kara, let's go."

Matthew said turning to get in the car when Gabriella grabbed his arm.

"Matthew..."

He yanked his arm away from her, getting in the car. I quickly followed, feeling her steely gaze on me.

"Drive."

I said, watching her.

"No problem."
