Damien

The drive out to Bankhead from Damien's Midtown loft was a short one but, he dreaded every second he drove closer.

Damien had a good relationship with both of his parents but, his father was overbearing and his mother was melodramatic.

As he pulled up to the gate, he input the code and waited for the gate to open.

Driving up to the mansion Damien could feel the migraine starting to form.

He hit the button above his head to open the 3 car garage and parked in his usual spot. He sat in the car a good 5 minutes before his mother poked her head out of the door.

"Boy, it's hot as ever in this garage bring your behind in the house before you pass out," she yelled out before closing the door back.

Damien rolled his eyes and started gathering his things before exiting the car. It was a tad bit warm. The late May heat making the garage warmer than outside.

Damien entered the house and immediately smelled the food. He walked to the kitchen and spoke to Chef Semaj.

Semaj had been the Downs' chef for as long as Damien could remember. Since his mother had never learned to cook. Chef prepared meals was all he knew growing up.

The only reason Damien knew how to cook was because he took classes last summer when he had just started dating Mariah.

Damien sat down at the counter not even bothering to look for his mom and dad. He knew eventually they would make their way to the kitchen to give him a speech.

"How you been living Semaj?" Damien said as he watched her maneuver around the kitchen.

"Good, I finally got my son back into music class. His father is upset because he wanted him in football but, he'll be okay," she sighed as she cut onions.

"Yes he will."

Damien admired Semaj. She was in her early 50's but, did not look a day over 30. She worked hard and loved her son even harder.

Damien heard the clicking of heels, and mentally cursed to himself.

"So you weren't going to come speak to your poor mother?," Diana spoke in a dramatic tone.

"Ma, you're anything but poor. How are you?," Damien said as he took his mother in for a hug.

Diana hugged her son back, smiled at him, then smacked his arm.

"Damn, ma what you do that for?"

"Don't damn ma me. Watch your mouth boy. Why did you break up with Mariah?"

"Ma, the girl was damn near having sex on the dance floor of a club with another mam and your asking me why I broke up with her?"

His mother gripped her chest and put the other on her head.

"Oh, lord. How could she?" Diana said as she fanned herself.

Damien chuckled because his mother really could win actress of the year with the act she was putting on.

"Ma, you don't even like the girl. You can drop the act when dad is not around."

Diana straightened herself out before she spoke.

"You're right, I hated the bitch. I only played along because you know how your father can be."

"Ma!"
