Scott's POV

I told her.

I told Rin that things would end up like this. But did she listen to me?

Nope.

So, by that reasoning, it was fine that I thought it was funny right?

At first, she seemed like she would handle herself this time, but ha. I was wrong.

I didn't want to be that friend to dote on her, especially not on her birthday, so I kept my distance from her and simply watched to make sure she wouldn't get herself in trouble.

But by her second beer, I could tell she was gone. Her eyes had that faraway look. But she was having fun. I decided not to do anything yet.

I watched as she made made her way over to the bar top and leaned on it, trying to catch the bartender's attention. I could tell from her expression that she had found her next victim.

Aw, I knew she'd do that. The bartender was totally her type. I couldn't blame her, though, she was a catch.

Trying to be discreet, I danced my way to the edge of the dance floor, as close as I could get to where they were without making it obvious that I was trying to eavesdrop.

"Hey, can I get another beer?" I heard her ask, her voice slightly slurred.

I glanced back and saw her quickly run her hands through her hair, trying to fix it. I couldn't help but smile at her awkardness.

The bartender returned and handed her the beer. Before she could leave again, Rin attempted to make conversation. They talked about the club and how crowded it was.

"Y'know," Rin started to say, "When I came over here I was going to say something witty to make you laugh, but you're so beautiful that you made me forget my pickup line."

Ah. There it was.

I try to hold in my laughter, failing to do so and having to turn away to not catch their attention. I'd known Rin since we were small, she was practically my sister, but I still found her lines so terribly good.

Thankfully, the bartender found her attempts at flirting adorable and laughed along. I'm sure she got hit on a lot, but the way Rin became doe-eyed and all smiles whenever she saw her laugh made me feel happy for her. It wasn't everyday that the target of her flirting played along after all.

Not wanting to butt in too much, I turn away to let Rin do her talking. I turn back just in time to hear her say her goodbyes.

"I'm gonna go now. I know you're busy and all, so just add me to your to-do list, yeah?"

Now that was too much for me. I burst out laughing and walk away. It was going to be fun telling her about this afterwards.

Rin approaches me after a while and I ask how she's doing. She's practically shining, a wide smile on her face. She nods and I chuckle at her.

I think she was going to do fine on her own.

As I'm walking away, I hear a small yelp and someone talk.

"Rin? Are you okay?"

I turn around and see Rin hunched over, Amelia at her side. I can't hear them talk, but I do see Amelia put her hand on her shoulder.

Oh?

This was interesting, seeing as how Rin had had the biggest crush on Amelia for, what, two years now? Although she had said she was trying moving on, seeing as how it was an unrequited love.

Hence all the flirting.

Curiosity winning over me, I make my way to them. Amelia looks up at me, but Rin stays hunched over. I raise an eyebrow at her.

Amelia shrugs. "I guess she got to that point," she simply says.

But I can see the concern and worry in her eyes as she looks down at Rin.

Oh?

I smile to myself and finally decide to do something.

"Hey, Amelia?" she looks questioningly at me. "I met this really cute guy earlier, and I kinda want to hang out with him so could you....?" I gesture at Rin.

Rin suddenly stands up and turns to me.

"Sc-ott..?" she says, and I get what Amelia said about her getting to that point.

I smile innocently at her and pat her head. Her face scrunches up and she furrows her eyebrows at me. She swats my hand away.

"Wha t do yoo want?" she asks, and I notice her having trouble concentrating. "Doont be a spo-il spouurt."

Someone really needed to get her out, I decided.

"Rin, I'm kinda busy right now. so Amelia's gonna get you home, 'kay?"

At the mention of Amelia, Rin's eyes widen and then narrow at me.

"She'll take care of you," I tell her, and then nod to Amelia.

Amelia gives me a small smile and then takes Rin's arm with one hand and puts her other arm around her shoulders, leading her out of the building.

I smie at their retreating figures.
