Chapter 5. (Not Edited)
To say I was just nervous would be a understatement. I was freaking out when it came to the end of my last lesson. I had detention. To me it was like a foreign word, I didn’t get detention. I never had a single detention in my life.
The seconds of the final minute ticked by as I waited anxiously in my seat. My teeth gnawed away at what was left of my finger nails. I swear I could feel beads of sweat forming on my fore head. I was literally crapping myself. What do you do at a detention anyway? I guess I was going to find out in just a few minutes time.
Alice had told me that she’d wait for me outside my last lesson, English with Miss. Jones. It was pretty much an easy going lesson. Which was good as I hadn’t been paying attention to the lesson. My mind had been wandering off on its own, panicking over the detention I was soon going to have to attend.
The bell rang bringing me out of my thoughts. I sucked in a deep breath it was time to for my detention. I packed my stuff up neatly and slung the bag over my shoulder before heading out of the room with the rest of the students. Just like Alice had promised she was leaning against the wall opposite to my classroom door – waiting. She pushed herself off the wall when she noticed me.
“I’m sorry, Laura.” She said.
I shook my head, “It’s not your fault.” I tell her honestly.
She sighs, “But if I didn’t hit her then you wouldn’t be having your first detention.”
“Its fine and we should get going.” I say not wanting to be late to my first detention. I didn’t know the consequences to arriving late to a detention was but I didn’t want to find out the hard way either.
She nods and leads the way to my first detention. Like any other time when Alice walks down the corridors, students part like the red sea. We exit the school and go left to the side which is were the isolation block is. The isolation block is a building detached from the main building, it’s where you go when teachers send you out or if you’ve done something bad but not worth to be suspended over. I gather that’s where the detention room is.
Alice pushes the door open and steps aside to allow me to pass her. I quickly pass her and give her a smile in thanks. She then enters a room to the left of the small detached building that has a sign reading - Detention Room in bold black letters.
Taking a deep breath I walked through the door to find that they were quite a few students littered about in the room. Some where sat on desks talking to others while some had there head down on the desk and were sleeping. They wasn’t a teacher in sight and I wondered when they’d arrive.
Alice strolls down the aisle of tables and takes a seat on the back row. Propping her feet on the desk as she leaned back, she gestured for me to come over and I did. I took a seat next to her and nervously twiddled my thumbs in my lap; a habit I had when I was nervous or scared.
“Granger! What you done this time?” A voice called out.
I looked up to see a guy sat on one of the desks looking over at Alice. He looked pretty much like a bad boy with hiw leather jacket and military boots. “Punched a prep.” She replied. The guy chuckles and so does his friend who sat next to him who too was wearing a leather jacket. What is it with bad boys and leather jackets? Totally cliché.
“Nice, what’s the nerd doing here? Doesn’t she need to go home and study?” The same guy chuckled.
Alice glared at him, “Don’t make fun of my friend.” She snapped at him.
“She’s your friend?” The guy asked, disbelief in his voice.
“Yeah, problem Anderson?” She asked.
He shook his head, “Nope, just curious.”
“Well don’t. You know curiosity killed the cat.” Alice said. No I could see why people moved out of her way she could be pretty bitchy and badass when she wants to be. I was thankful that she stuck up for me.“I ain’t no cat.” He said.
“Shut it.” Alice snapped.
