Broken Lover

My lips were bloody, my head was as heavy as a bowling ball, and eyes were so tired and puffy I could only squint. Pain seared through my veins as I gritted my teeth, the steamy blood melted the lit snow under the starry sky, dripping rhythmically with my heartbeat,

"Why...why are you hurting me?" I asked the shadow looming over me in a threatening way,

"Because you're easy, your heart is susceptible, I could kiss your hand and you'd fall head over heels for me...even if I ignored you every. single. day. "

"That's not me!" I protested a lie, my voice breaking in the face of truth.

Shadow then kicked me in the gut leaving a dark mark on my abdomen, I could feel my organs almost hit my back as blood rushed to the new forming bruise. I coughed up more blood, my fingers numbing clinging, or more so sinking into the frost covered snow.

"You'll fall for anyone who makes your heart sing, you'll pour your art onto them, your enthusiasm into them, you'll fill them with yourself until you're left to rot when you become the third wheel of the bike, the training the wheels...the wheels everybody plays with till they don't have a use for you anymore."

Shadow then cowered down next to my frail shivering body and draped a cold arm around my shoulder, it's spider-like fingernails crawling down my arm until they gripped my tucked bicep.

I let it cling to me as I cried, and cried, and cried until my eyes were red and I sat ever still...

as a broken lover.
