Deja built a makeshift camp not far from the waterfall where she nearly drowned River. She leaned some bamboo poles and palm branches against the tree River was tied to.
He looked so pitiful sitting on the ground with his hands and feet bound. But what else could she do? It was for his own good.
She stooped and looked into River's eyes. They were filled with terror. Deja would have thought she'd be happy to see anything in River's eyes besides blank stares, but she was wrong. His new look was much more unsettling. It was like seeing someone come back from the dead only to end up in an even worse condition.
"Do you know who I am?" Deja asked. She paused. "Do you have any idea where we are?" Again, no response.
"I'm going to have to keep you tied up again today, Sport. I'm sorry." She left in search of food with a deep sense of loneliness.
