Luke

I met a girl in the 1820s. She was beautiful, her long blonde her naturally flowed over her shoulders. A wrinkle appeared next to her eyes when she smiled. Her teeth were crooked, but perfectly white. She wore long dresses that let the woman inside her shine, and the child peek and hide. I saw the curve her hips made that time she undressed in front of her window. I saw how she covered the darkness underneath her eyes. I saw her put her favorite daisy right above her ear and walk around with pride.

I saw her sneak away with the man she loved, and marry the one she despised. Her beautiful bracelets hid the pain inside. Her green eyes which once shined bright like mine, hid behind the hats she wore. She wore as a disguise. I saw the bruises on her legs when she got dressed in front of her window. I saw how she covered them with dresses that hid more than she could. I saw her favorite daisy fall from her ear and hit the cold ground.

I knew a girl in the 1820s. She was beautiful, her long blonde hair naturally flowed over her shoulders. I missed the wrinkle next to her eyes, she never smiled. I couldn't see her teeth because she never spoke anymore. She wore long dresses that had bloodstains hidden away on the inside of her sleeve. She looked like the woman she was, missed the child inside.

I lost a girl in the 1830s. She disappeared to never be found. Her lover got blamed and her husband took the pride. I stood in front of my window everyday to see if she would appear. I held the daisy she lost that day on the parade, close to my heart. And wished that someday she would return with that beautiful smile.

I found a girl in the woods today, she was laid in a field of daisies. It was 2014, and I was on a different planet. But I never forgot about that smile, that smile that had returned.
