A light patter of rain had begun to fall from the sky whilst the wind howled, echoing in the clearing. Oaksplash took a deep breath turning around to face the ShadowClan entrance once more.

"I'll just wait out here," Dappledleg mewed, sensing his hesitation, "You can do whatever."

He nodded, apprehensively padding into the camp, narrowing his eyes into slits against the wind. He was half expecting every cat to be tucked away in their dens considering the weather, but a few cats were walking around the clearing.

They seemed to just be going around their daily business and he felt his heart sink; he was completely invisible to them. He was hoping he would be able to talk with Eaglewing again. As he gazed around his old home fondly, he couldn't help thinking back to his earlier conversation with Dappledleg. She was hiding something from him.

Just as he thought that, Brightshadow walked into the camp, her fur frizzy from the rain. Walking beside her was a dark brown tabby with a fluffy white underbelly.. Oaksplash's eyes lit up with glee. It was Eaglewing. Oaksplash ran up to him, joy clouding his senses as he completely forgot he wouldn't be able to see him. When Eaglewing walked right past him his heart dropped, and anger flared up in his chest, Why? Why wouldn't StarClan let him see me? There must be a way..

He concentrated and willed himself to be seen, something seemed to glow inside of him and suddenly everyone was staring at him in disbelief. With everyone's eyes on him, a part of him regretted what he had done.

After a moment of silence Eaglewing ran up to him, "Oaksplash!" he spluttered, his eyes shining with amazement, "Is that really you?"

"Y-Yeah!" his eyes were watering as he nuzzled his brother warmly.

"B-But how?" Eaglewing broke away, staring at him in confusion.

"Um, I'm not entirely sure, I just wanted to check up on you.." he trailed off, wondering if this was such a good idea after all.

"Well, thanks Oaksplash," he smiled after a moment, "By the way, did you know you have star sprinkles in your fur?" he sniggered, his blue eyes shining.

"Yeah, everyone's been going on about that," he chuckled quietly, "They're kinda annoying."

After a moment of comfortable silence, Eaglewing's face turned serious, his eyes dark, "Oaksplash..?" he asked, with an edge to his tone,

"Yeah?" Oaksplash blocked out the worry in his mind about what he might say, he's still my brother, he reassured himself.

He hesitated, "Can you.. stay?" his voice squeaked, his eyes watering.

"I.. I don't.." Oaksplash was cut off as he felt his body start to flicker, and he felt fatigue overwhelm him. He tried to stay to answer his question but his eyes could barely stay open. He didn't want Eaglewing to know the answer anyway.. He finally fell into a restless sleep, leaving ShadowClan behind.

"No! Oaksplash, answer me!" Eaglewing rushed to where his brother had been a moment ago, tears dripping down his face, "Come back! Please!"

Seeing his brother again had given him hope, but it all seemed to shattered in an instant as he was tugged away back to the afterlife. Brightstream had been watching the entire time, she was a logical minded cat, and up until now believing in StarClan took effort. Now she fell speechless as her dead apprentice vanished into the night once more, her thoughts whirling, trying to come up with explanations.

"Brightstream, do you think he'll come back?" Eaglewing turned to her, his eyes misted over with grief.

"I-I.." she didn't know what to say, even thought she tried to comfort him, the words seemed to disappear.. just as Oaksplash had done.
