You were awake but didn't open your eyes. You were to worn out to open your eyes. To make up for your lackluster existence your other senses kicked into high gear. Someone was holding you. As you took in their sent as euphoria flooded over you. You remembered this feeling of being held, safe from the outside world. As if you and him were the only two people in the world. You felt like you were back at base. Jesse holding you while you slept. Too soon reality came crashing back down on you. Your eyes snapped open and you pushed him away, making Mccree fall off the bed. "Shit! What was that for?" The cowboy grumbled. You were a mess. You were tripping and fumbling over your words.

"I get it. Overstepped the boundaries. Sorry doll." He spoke up, putting an end to your rambling. He stood up then stretched. "How ya feelin'?" He asked flashing you his signature lopsided grin. You rolled your shoulder. "Better thanks." You mumbled. "Anytime darlin'." He spoke softly. You stood up and stretched. "You never told me what you were doin' last night." He questioned. "You know, stuff." You laughed awkwardly. "Your actin' like I'm gonna reprimand ya. I'd be a hypocrite if I did." He rolled his eyes. You sigh in relief. "So you do the same?" You asked. You had never actually seem him work. He spends a lot of his day with you. Now thinking about it it is odd. "Relatively." He answered. "What do you want for breakfast?" He shot you a smile. You loved his smile. You loved everything about this man, but you'd never admit it. "Your supposed to be mad at him (Y/n). Or at the very least just ignore him." You mentally scolded yourself. "He left you. You can't let him back in." You hadn't realized you had been mumbling until the cowboy grabbed your attention. "(Y/n)." His tone and mood had changed. "Huh?" You tilted your head. "Got somethin' to say?" He hissed through gritted teeth. "Oh, I hadn't realized I was speaking." You practically whisper. Then silence feel upon the small hotel room. "Mccree-" You tried to start but he cut you off. "I wanted to take you. But I knew you wouldn't want to come and you were injured. I-I-" The anger from his tone turned to guilt and sorrow.

"Then I thought. I knew takin' you with me would put you in danger. I thought about how capable I could be. I sure as hell couldn't take care of ya. I didn't want to drag ya into my mess. I didn't want to leave ya either but I made the most logical choice. I'm sorry if I did what was probably best." The last sentence laced with venom. You were silent. In all your grief and blind rage you didn't look at the situation from his point of view. You just stood there stunned. "Jesse I never thought-" Before you could finish he cut you off again. "You didn't think about it like that right? No one does. They see me as this sketchy no good man-whore. No one stops to think otherwise. 'Oh he left you? He's probably out fucking several whores. He isn't worth it. I could tell he wasn't gonna be loyal. Oh you poor thing it's not your fault, he's the asshole!' I've heard it all before! No one stops to think I try my damn hardest. I just-Fuck!" His anger melted into frustration. You reached out to him. "Jesse." You felt bad. He is really just trying his hardest. "Don't you fuckin' touch me." He snapped. You flinched at his harsh tone. He looked at you then sighed. "Wether you believe it or not I am tryin' and I wanna make things right, if you'd just stop to think for a second you'd realize that." He spoke quietly. There was silence for a moment before you suddenly spoke. You practically yelled. "I know and I want to fix this too I'm just scared!" He looked stunned for a moment. Then his expression softened. Just by saying that you felt a heavy weight lift from your shoulders. Mccree opened his arms and you practically threw yourself at him. He held you like there was no tomorrow. You missed this.

You parted from the warmth of his embrace. "I've got, you know, work." You say sheepishly, earning a chuckle from the cowboy. "As long as your shoulder is better do what ya want." He smiled softly. "Yeah I'm fine, thanks." You said as you started walking to the door. You stopped right as you got to the door. You didn't open it but instead turned around and made a beeline for Mccree. He looked at you confused. As soon as you got up to him you kissed his cheek then turned and left.

Work went as usual. Nothing interesting. Mccree came around with lunch and stayed till the end of your shift. You two walked home. As you were walking you felt his hand brush against yours, causing a small smile to grace your face. You grabbed his hand and intertwined your fingers. You looked up at Mccree. He gave you a soft smile. Suddenly your phone went off. You groan and grabbed it out of your pocket. You let go of his hand. "Yeah." You spoke quietly. "Ah Songbird, there you are, I've called you twice already." The stranger grumbled the last part. "Sorry I was at work." You sigh. "Understandable." He commented. "I don't have anymore jobs right now but I have something better. I want you to come see me. I have a position open for you if your willing to take it." His tone unwavering. "Yeah that'd be amazing just, hold up right now I'm a bit preoccupied." You mumble. "Of course let's talk when you have time." The man said then hung up. You put your phone back in your pocket. Mccree looked to you for an explanation. "Just Stephanie calling to ask something." You lied. You then intertwined hour hands with his again. You two continued walking in a comfortable silence. "Jesse?" You started, breaking the silence. He just hummed in response. "Do you plan on staying here or are you eventually going to continue on your way?" You asked. He pondered that question for a bit. "Well I think I'll be wherever you are." He finally spoke. You sighed in relief leaning against him as you continued walking.

A/n: been a bit dead but that's ok. Here. I've been working on this for several days with wavering creative motivation but I did it. Hope you enjoyed. Later
