Caroline sat at the top of the staircase watching her parents argue once again over something so stupid. She sat there quietly crying and felt her older brother, Christopher, put his arm around her. She looked at him.
"I don't like this," Caroline said to her brother.
He nods and pulls her into a hug, protecting her from hearing anything else. Both of them sat there watching their parents fight. They've always heard their parents fight but their fights weren't has bad as this fight. Soon enough, they saw something they never expected. Their dad slapped their mom and pushed her to the floor, kicking her and punching her. Caroline gasped softly and started to crying harder than she already was. She saw her brother get up and run over to their mom. She saw that their dad pulled out a gun and pointed at Christopher's head. Christopher turned to his younger sister and mouthed 'call the police.' Caroline understood and ran to grab a phone. She dialed 9-1-1. The phone rang and Caroline waited patiently for someone.
"Hello? Nine one one what's your emergency?" Someone on the other line says.
"Hi. My dad has my brother a gun point and he punched and kicked my mom," Caroline breathed out.
"Okay what's your address?" The receptionist asks.
"854 GreenTree Avenue," Caroline says.
"The police will be there in a couple minutes," the receptionist says and hangs up.
Caroline puts the phone down and sits back down on the top of the staircase. She watches her brother try to calm their dad down. He wouldn't budge and pulled the trigger. Caroline gasps and watching her brother fall to the floor. She stands up and runs over to her brother.
"Please don't leave me Chris. Don't go," Caroline whispers.
"I'm not going anywhere. He hit me in the arm. I'm right here," Christopher whispers.
Soon the police walk in and take their dad. The paramedics take Christopher and their mom and put them in an ambulance, rushing them to the hospital. The police walk over to Caroline and start asking her questions. She was in a daze, looking around her house. She looks over at the police putting her dad in the police car, then looks over at the paramedics putting her brother and mom into the ambulance. Her whole world has come crashing down. She looked over at the police that were talking to her.
"Will you like to tell me what happened," one of the officers asks.
"My parents have been fighting for a while and their fights were over something small until today. I sat at the top of the staircase with my brother and they were yelling. I guess my dad was really mad and started to hit and kick my mom. So my brother went to help my mom. My dad then pulled out a gun and pointed it to my brother's head. That's when he told me to call you guys. So after that my dad pulled the trigger of the gun and shot my brother in the arm," Caroline says and cries.
The officers thank her and walk over to the other officers. Caroline sits on the front porch and watch the ambulances and the officers drive off. She rests her head on her knees and she sighs, not knowing what's going to happen after all of this.
