Kennie's POV

"Are we there yet?"
"No."
"Are we there yet?"
"No"
"Are we there yet?"
"I will kick you out of this fucking truck if you say that again." I said irritated.
"Fine." Zeke grumbled.

— Crossing the Tennessee into Alabama border—

I stop to get gas at a small town. Zeke wakes up just in time. I get gas and go into pay. I remember why this looked so familiar. MaKayla and I were here when I was 12.

*actual convo from when MaKayla and I were 12*

"You don't need a honey bun." I said.
"I want a honey bun." She said, her voice deeper than usual since she just woke up.
"Why would your mom even let you get a honey bun?" I asked.
"Cause I want it." She said. Her mom came out and she ended up getting a giant honey bun.

*reality*

I grabbed a water bottle and a honey bun for old times sake. Sometimes it's the little things you remember that means the most. I had already lost her, and I hoped I had time to get her back. We got back on the road and I had to remember the way we got up there, but I made it in time. We arrived at 2:47 in the morning and Zeke was tired, to say the least. We went to bed and I knew the morning would be eventful.

* 5:47 am*

I woke up to a terrible dream that inevitably sparked a small argument in my head.
"She could have died. You weren't there to even see it."
"She is fine. She can care for herself. If worst comes to worst, she has that dickhead by her side."
"You won't even if she's dead right now though. She's practically your twin and it doesn't look like you care."
"I do care!"
"Really? You made her feel like she couldn't do anything. If caring is putting her down, then you've succeeded so much."
I got up to groom the horses while trying not to wake Zeke up. I ate the rest of my honey bun and first went to the office to pay and put my name in the raffle, along with Zeke's.
"Hey, Ken! Are you here with Kayla?" The nice girl at the desk asked.
"Oh umm.. no, but she should be coming soon... hopefully." I replied.
"Alright. I'm registering you now. Do I also need to register another person?"
"Umm, yes. Zeke Evans."
"And your last name? I'm sorry it's just hard to remember."
"Hiradexa. Kennie Hiradexa."
"Both silos and what else do you need?"
"6 stalls and 3 trail rides."
"Ok, 1,869.86."
I hand her my credit card.
"Enjoy. Tell me when you're checking out so I don't overcharge you. That's for the month."
I nod and start unloading our horses. Jay, my horse, Kookie, Lily's (soon to be) horse, Oreo, Kayla's horse, and the 3 horses I got for the boys to share, Amber, June, and Apollo.
