Me, Alice, and Hayley approached the rectangular table that was situated in the center of the lunch room. I sat in the middle while Hayley sat to right of me, taking the ending seat, and Alice sat to the left of me.

Michael and Zachary currently were nowhere in sight with the pizza they promised. Mike, who contact name was mysteriously changed after I let him borrow my phone, only sent me a short text that went something like...

"Michael and Zachary won't be here until another five minutes," I reported the news to them, setting my phone down.

"Did Zach drop the pizza again?" Alice sighed in grief, closing her eyes while she shook her head in disappointment.

I shined her a sheepish smile, "What? M-maybe," I chuckled, spotting one of Hayley's brows rising up.

"You would think that someone so serious and mature wouldn't be so clumsy," she contemplated, a ding from her phone instantly absorbing her attention.

"No expectations, no disappointments," Hayley replied solemnly, her voice considerably low that it was hard to hear but not impossible.

I quietly reiterated her words back, biting down on my bottom lip.

Hayley spares me a sideway glance around her hoodie, observing me quietly as I repeated her own words. She roamed her eyes up and down my figure for a few moments, a questioning look appearing on her frowning face, seeming as if she was determining an answer to a question she wouldn't speak out loud.

Then, a stream of air flew from her mouth, sighing in... possible relief as she laid her head against her arms.

Alice's head shot up from her phone, a scowl etching onto her face and curling up her lips in disgust. She harshly exhaled air from her lungs, not so gingerly placing her phone to the table and staring up to the entrance.

I followed her line of sight, easily viewing Tate's tall and mildly built figure leaning against the wall to the exit. Unlike many times before, his long arms were on display today, revealing his tattoos that covered his brown skin. And unlike before, there wasn't a trace of his old dreadlocks that normally hung down his head. Now, as I unnoticeably observed him, his hair was cut down and cropped nicely.

The phone in his hand was slipped into his pocket, in the process, he winked at Alice, a smug grin dazzling his features. She grimaced in reply, detaching her eyes from his. She shifted in her position on her seat, angling her body more in my direction as she plopped her elbow to the table, using her hand to turn her face my way and to block a certain someone from staring.

"What is it, Alice?" I voiced in concern, placing a gentle hand on her upper arm.

She snuck a look over at Hayley, finding that she was in another world far away as she whispered, "Remember how Tate dragged me out of school when we met Tamara?"
