The next day, Jenn decides it stay home. It's not like her dad would care anyway. As Jenn went over past events of her life in her mind, she finally spoke up. Not to Nina or her dad, but to herself.

"Ugh! I've been through so much shit and I can't handle it! Mom and Dad's divorce, family issues, Dad's addictions, and now Nina?! I'm done!" She runs to her bathroom and sits on the toilet. She looks at the eyebrow sharpener sitting on the tiled countertop and picks it up hesitantly. She picks up the screwdriver on the floor and begins to unscrew the bolts. Her eyes flood with tears as she hears the squeaky sounds of the unscrewing. They soon pop out and she picks one up and hides the rest in a plastic bag. "First cut goes to Nina. Thanks for making me feel like shit." She slides the blade across her wrist and presses it into her skin. She winces in pain as blood is rushing out of her arm. "Second cut goes to Dad. Thanks for beating me and becoming an addicted asshole." Again, she presses into her skin and slides it across, forming another cut. "And the rest go to Mom. Thanks for leaving me when I fucking needed you!" she shouts. Again, she makes a cut. She looks at her arm and drops the blood-covered blade onto the floor. She sobs and sobs until her eyes are burning and red. "For every cut, there's a reason behind it."

The next morning, she wears a red, oversized, knitted sweater from Hollister, black leggings from Forever 21, and a pair of tall, tan Ugg boots with a messy bun and a black knot headband. She walked to school and once she got there, she saw Courtney in an instant by her bright pink shirt.

"Jennifer!" shouts Courtney as she runs in Jenn's direction. "Listen, I am so sorry about the bathroom thing, so I got you this bracelet. Shawn wanted to give it to you."

"S-Shawn?" Jenn says.

Courtney nods and pulls up Jenn's sleeve. "Now lemme put it-" Her eyes go wide. "Jenn..."

Jenn instantly pulls her sleeve back down.

"What is that?" Courtney asks with tears forming.

Jenn sighs. "My cuts. Every single one has a story behind it."

"No," Courtney says, shaking her head slowly. "No, you can't-you can't be doing this!"

"You're right, I can't be. But it's my choice Courtney."

Courtney grabs ahold of Jenn's wrist and pulls her to the bathroom. They brush past a bunch of students roaming the halls until they finally get into the girls bathroom. Courtney let's go of Jenn's wrist and looks under all the stalls. Nobody. Then she locks the door.

"Okay, listen," Courtney says, pulling out a sharpie from her back pocket. She grabs Jenn's wrist and draws a butterfly. "When you feel like cutting, draw a butterfly wherever you cut. It means you're trying to fly away from harming yourself. Let the butterfly fade by itself. Do not scrub it off. It shows you that you can really stop harming yourself. If you cut the butterfly before it fades, you killed it. Let it fade. Once it's gone, you've flown away from that part of your life. Show me that you have the strength to stop. I'm going to name it Jenn because I support and believe in you. Whenever you draw a new one, name it by someone who has helped you a lot or who you look up to."
