We've Got Fire

Savannah's POV

"I think you may want this back," I said, taking off Harry's dry hoodie and handing it to him.

"Be safe!" Zayn calls as Liam and I turn around and start heading towards the mountain.

"You better keep an eye on her this time, Liam!" Louis yells since we were getting further away now. I laughed at his silly comment.

We traveled awhile without saying a word.

"So how are we going to build the fire?" I asked him finally breaking the silence.

"Well we're almost to the mountain, once we get there we can gather twigs. Then we can get a bundle of leaves," He answered me.

"Okay sounds good to me," I reply.

I took in the silence of the scenery trying to ignore thoughts and questions that reached my mind. You don't realize how much you think about things until you're alone. I really want to bring up the incident but I don't know how.

  

Liam's POV

We got to the mountain, finally, and started collecting twigs.

"Liam," She sighed,"why did you kiss me?"

I immediately turned around.

"Savannah, I am completely, head over heels in love with you and you don't even realize it."

I dropped my twigs into the blazing fire we had going. I looked up, waiting for a reaction. I am sure there are plenty of worse things here on this island, but the silence that was growing was painful enough.

"Why? I mean you're Liam Payne!" She replied after what seemed like forever.

"Liam, you barely know me. You don't know me or my life! We met in a gift shop goddammit!" She exclaimed as she threw a bunch of leaves angrily into the fire. My heart immediately dropped.

Savannah's POV

Don't look up, Savannah. Don't look up! I know if I look up into his warm brown eyes I'll melt. I picked up more leaves and tossed them into the fire.

"Savannah, if were going to be stuck on an island together can we at least not fight?" Liam asked me.

"Liam, I don't want to fight either, but you don't like me..you can't." I threw twigs into the fire.

"Why can't I?" Liam crossed his arms.

"Because," I tried to hold the tears back, "I'm not a celebrity or a model."

"Savannah.."

I swatted him away with my hand as the tears started to fall.

Liam's POV

I sat next to her and put my arm around her for support. She uncovered her face and looked at me sniffling. Why did this remind me so much of the ship sinking? Then the next round of tears started to fall, but this time she buried her face into my shoulder.

"Savannah, you don't have to be a model or someone famous for me to like you. I like you just the way you are!" I could already hear Just The Way You Are by Bruno Mars playing in the back of my mind.

She wiped her tears away before getting back to work. "Well we better finish the fire!" She tried to sound cheerful, but I knew deep down she was hurting. We finished the fire soon enough and headed back to the pond.

"Savannah!" Before I knew it Niall and Louis were running towards Savannah and I. They quickly tackled her.

"You're alive!" Niall exclaimed.

She laughed, "Why wouldn't I be?"

Zayn caught up, "You have been gone almost the whole day! Harry and I thought something happen to both of you!"

Savannah and I exchanged glances.

"It took awhile to build the fire, actually," Savannah stated. I didn't say anything but technically that wasn't the truth...

"Whose going tomorrow?" Zayn asked, changing the subject.

"I guess Savannah and I could?" Harry suggested as he came out of nowhere. My stomach clenched in a knot. What is jealousy? Everyone turned to me waiting for an answer.

"Yeah sounds lovely," I said, trying not to sound sarcastic.

So it was settled. Why didn't I have the guts to say no?
