I held my gaze at the concrete floor with a medal pole between my handcuffed hands. I was in a squatting position since they forced my hands to be chained close to the ground. I was in the middle between the military force and recon corps.
This is how our system works. If the criminal has potential to fight against the titans, then the recon corps will take them; if they want to. But I'll only get a few years so there is no way that I'll join the recon corps.
"State your name and crime!" The judge demanded with power seeping from his voice.
"Gemma Stone! And my crime is for smuggling military weapons!" I said without missing a beat.
"Gemma Stone! Is she the daughter of that serial killer?" I heard one of the military police whisper to another person.
"Gemma Stone..." The judge said, thinking as he stroked his beard. "Are you related to Ryan Stone?"
"Um..." I said, hesitating. "Yes."
This is bad. I might get extra years just for being related to a father that hates me. I might...actually die, and that sounds so tempting for some reason and it scarred me that that's how I felt. It wasn't normal for a person to think that.
He looked at me as if he already made his decision as soon as those words left my mouth. "Life sentence." He boomed.
"What?!" I yelled in disbelief.
Then a blond guy with bushy eyebrows raised his hand before speaking. "Sir! I would like to recruit Gemma Stone to the Recon Corps!"
"Do whatever you like. Either way she dies." The judge said as he got out of his seat and dismissed the court without a damn that my life was on the line. What a dick!!
"So now I'm going to be fighting Titans. Great!" I muttered sarcastically.
The bushy eyebrow dude walked up to me as two military police men grab the pole and allowed me to stand with only my handcuffs.
"Hello. I'm Erwin. And you'll be under our care." He said in a business-like tone and posture.
"Gemma Stone, but I'm pretty sure you know who I am. Now do you mind?" I asked with raised eyebrows as I gestured to my handcuffed hands.
"We will take them off as soon as we arrive to our base." Erwin answered.
"Well isn't that delightful." I said sarcastically. "But why do you want me?"
"I heard you have great agility." Agility? That makes it sound like that's my only redeeming quality.
"Well I can't argue with that."
"This is Levi." He introduced me to an expressionless black-haired guy with blue eyes.
"And this is Hanji." He pointed his head towards a red-head girl with glasses over brown eyes.
"Uh...nice to meet you?" I said hesitantly, not sure how to greet people.
"Why is that a question?" Levi asked in a rude tone.
"Well I'm not sure how to greet you people..." I lingered my sentence.
"Don't worry about him!" Hanji said as she places her hand on his shoulder. "He's just grumpy all the time!"
"Oh okay. Can we just go 'cause I really need to use the bathroom." I said with a hint of desperation.
"Sure. Let's go." Erwin said in a casual tone for the first time.
"Thank god..." I murmured under my breath.
I felt like I was going to explode if I didn't use the bathroom anytime soon to the point where it's killing me.
