I opened my eyes and yawned, my alarm was buzzing. I slowly stood up and hit the snooze button. I got ready in a daze that morning. I would leave tomorrow, possibly forever, that meant this was the last day I would see my family, and I wouldn't be home.
I walked down the stairs and out the front door. My dad raced out after me and we both climbed into the car. I looked out the window for the short drive and when it was over, I got out without a word.
I was in a daze. I think I was trying to block out the fact that I was leaving tomorrow. I took a deep trembling breath and walked into school. There was an unusually large crowd of girls outside of my locker and I bit my lip. As I got closer I could see a blonde head with long shaggy hair taller than the rest, "excuse me, this is my locker." I said as I pushed through the girls. Some gave me dirty looks and I just rolled my eyes at them, I finally got through them all and glared at each girl. With much reluctance, they turned and left, leaving Gabriel and I alone. I turned to him and smiled. His eyes looked amazing! They were a bronze color with gold and green flecks. They shown when the sun hit them, he looked like an angel, "Hey there, I'm a Gabriel, the office told me to wait by your locker and that I'm shadowing you for the day." He said smoothly with an amazing smile lighting up his face when he paused. I was about to say that I already knew him, so he didn't need to introduce himself again, when I realized that it was all part of the act. So I just smiled, stuck out my hand and replied, "yeah, they told me I was going to have a shadow today. I'm Evelyn, it's nice to meet you." He smirked and shook my hand, "Hey there, I'm Jade." Jade said as she walked up. She flipped her long wavy deep red hair and batted her eyelashes flirtasiously. Her warm brown eyes shone as she poured out all of her charm for Gabriel. Any regular guy would have melted on the spot and have done anything Jade told them to. Gabriel glanced at her and slightly nodded his head at her, "Gabriel." He turned back to me and smiled. The warmth in Jade's eyes disappeared in a flash and she frowned. She turned and stormed away in a flurry of dark red hair. A couple boys dropped their books and rushed after her, "So are you ready for tomorrow?" Gabriel asked, calling my attention back to him. I shrugged and looked at the ground.
He bent down and whispered into my ear, "Your going to do just fine kiddo." I looked up into his bronze eyes, "Thanks." I said with a smile. The bell rang and I grabbed my books. "So what grade are you in anyways? 6th?" he asked playfully as we walked to my first class. I glared up at him and said defensively, "I'm a senior!" He laughed and people gave us a weird look, probably wondering why the shadow and I were already poking fun at eachother. I slowly realized that I had no idea how old Gabriel really was. If he could shift, then he could really be some creepy 40 year old man. I glanced up at him with wary eyes, "what?" he asked, "nothing, I just need to ask you something later." I replied quietly as we walked into my first period class. "Alright." he said.
Jade was in this class and she was still fuming. All the boys in the class were around her trying to figure out what was wrong when we walked in. Jade looked up and became even more furious. The boys looked over at us, their eyes lingered on me, but slowly looked up to Gabriel. They all narrowed their eyes and turned back to Jade to try and tell her that they were available if she wanted to hang out. She ignored them. I sighed, couldn't he have shifted into someone less attractive. He practically had all the girls in his lap. But what I had never seen coming happened when my teacher walked through the door.
