It was raining, and usually I loved the rain, but not when there were ten liters of it per squared centimeter. I ran down the soggy street and to school with my bag held over my head.Upon arriving, I didn't see Lillian standing inside the doors, and thus stood outside to wait for her like a good boyfriend. She arrived shortly after me, her parents having given her and her siblings rides to school.
"Morning beautiful. How's your day?"
"What the hell are you doing standing in the rain extra! You already have to walk to school, why not go inside and dry off while you wait?!" They weren't actually questions, she was just unsure of my motives.
"Because I wanted to not get distracted, so I could hold the door open." I pulled on the handle and stood back for her. She blushed, and walked through.
I took her bags from her and walked her to class. (She had geometry)
I hadn't cared all that much for attending this school, as there was no safe space for trans kids, but nobody knows I'm trans so I guess it's not important...
The day practically flew past, and it was lunch already. I had taken to eating lunch with Lillian and her friends, Emma and Ace. I didn't actually know Ace's actual name, but it didn't bother me. Every once in a while Troy would join us. He was gay and my only friend who was my friend first.
"English and geometry." This was how lily greeted me, by telling me what classes had assigned homework because she could never remember. Yet somehow I had the mental capacity to keep it all straight, and as the year progressed it became second nature.
"English and geometry." I repeated, sitting down to eat a school lunch of a cheeseburger and tater tots. I need to start to remember to pack my own lunch more often...
"Hey, guess who just got a boyfriend!" Emma joined us singing, pulling me into reality.
"Hmm, I don't know. It could possibly be the one looking on top of the world with a smile just as big, and singing could it?" I joshed. Ace rolled her eyes.
"Well my little Zucchini is in town this weekend and I won't be around." 'Zucchini was the equivalent of signing other for Asexual and/or Aromantic people, and that's how Ace got her nickname.
"I'm the only single one here?!" Troy joined us today, slipping his sandwich into the garbage because he didn't eat but his parents sent him with food.
"Looks like it."
"Yup."
"I guess sweet boyfriends are just as hard to find in NY as in California, too bad your not bi." Lillian elbowed my playfully.
"You wish everyone was bi, Troy can be straight flaming if he wants!"
"But I'm gay!" Troy protested.
"Whatever, you know what she means." Emma pointed out. Just then a boy walked past wearing an Alabama sweatshirt.
"Ooo, There's your wanna be boyfriend!" Ace whispered.
"Shhh!" Troy looked around to make sure nobody heard. "He could hear us!"
"He won't though, and he's so thick he'd never know your talking about him if he did." Ace countered.
"So, Troy and Alabama huh?" Emma looked back and forth between the two, "I could see that, it'd be super cute! Now all we have to do is figure out if he's gay..." Emma pauses and looked at all of us, "Julian, you go ask him."
"Why me? Ace could do it, or better yet, Troy could grow a pair and ask him out himself."
"Look who's talking. You do it, if it takes guts I don't have!" Troy snapped. I got up and wandered over, deciding it best to not argue with any of them, they make up the heading of speech and debate. Plus I'm touchy about them all knowing I'm Trans..
