Luke Brooks has been my best friend for as long as I can remember. I remember growing up with him like every memory was written on the palm of my hand. We were inseparable but completely friend zoned since the very first day we met. Everyone labelled us as the two peas in a pod.
3 years ago my grandma in England had been diagnosed with cancer so mum decided to move us over as a family; us two and little Jaida. Nothing has been amazing since I moved here. I'm 16 now and half of my teenage years have been wasted in misery, waiting for someone to befriend me. Don't get me wrong, I still talk to Luke. It would be amazing to have a friend to see in real life though.
*Skype ring tone goes off* "Lukey Pookey!" I literally yelped out when I answered. "Ey Rina. How's it going up in the land of cold? Has your ass frozen off yet?" "Oh, shut up Luke. It's summer here and Melbourne's just as cold!"
Luke's older brother Beau stuck his finger up out of nowhere. "I saw that Beau Job! I miss you!" "I miss you too and your stupid face. Only kidding. Not! Faggot." Beau joked. Jai walked past the camera not noticing I was skyping with Luke, looked at the screen, avoided looking again and kept walking, quicker this time. Jai was Luke's twin brother. I always got the biggest sense that he hated me though. He barely spoke when I was around.
"Uh, yeh. So what's the big news Ree?" Luke tried to break the awkward moment that took place seconds ago. "My nonna's gotten better. The doctors said she's clear of the cancer." "Wow that's amazing news!" "That's not all! We're coming back and this time she's coming with us. This way if something happens again we'll stay home, in Melbourne." I heard a bang in the background, like a bowl and a spoon falling at the same time. Luke had too big a smile on his face to notice. "What was that racket?" "It was just Jai being clumsy." "Oh..." "Anyway when are you coming?" "Only a week later. I can't wait to see you!"
