Draco looked up at the torn up talking hat with bright eyes, his heart was pounding out of his chest. He knew where he'd end up, but the crowd watching him made him fidgety.
"SLYTHERIN!!"
A smirk crawled onto Draco's face as he heard everyone yell and cheer his name. He then nervously slipped off of the dingy stool and made his way to his table, where he was greeted with high fives and hand shakes. His heart still pounded in his ears.
As time went by, more and more people got sorted. The number of students standing in front on the old hat gradually lowered until there was one left.
Her bright smile and caramel colored hair caught Draco's eye. He shifted in her direction.
"Katherine Smith!"
Draco's eyes followed the girl as she walked up to the sorting hat. Her heart pounded twice as hard as Malfoy's had. Both of her parents were muggles, her only knowledge of the wizarding world came from the Hogwarts books that her cousin had sent to her.
"better be... HUFFLEPUFF!!"
She giggled softly and jumped off of the stool.
Katherine had always wanted to be a hufflepuff ever since she was a little girl. She admired their views on people and wanted more than anything to be a part of their legacy.
Everyone watched with wide eyes as Katherine walked quickly to the Hufflepuff table.
She chose a seat next to a third year with grey eyes and dark brown hair.
"I'm Cedric"
Katherine looked up and met eyes with the boy.
She laughed nervously and shook his hand awkwardly.
"I'm Katherine.. Katherine Smith"
He smiled kindly and nodded.
"Welcome to Hufflepuff. I'll stick by you and make sure you feel welcome, if that's okay"
"Thank you, i'd love that"
Katherine laughed nervously and messed with her curls.
She then sat in silence, softly grazing the faint scars on her right wrist. Her life wasn't as easy as she made it out to be.
