Beep beep beep beep.

My legs were numb, my mouth felt dry and I desperately needed to pee. Curiosity slowly pried open my eyes to meet a dismal view of a magnolia coloured room, a navy blue door straight ahead.

"Ahh she's awake!" said someone, I looked to my right and 3 smiling but anxious faces looked back at me. Madison, Adrianna and zoey were clutching each other, only to quickly let go and rush by my bed.

Confused, I took in my surrounding-  the floor is slate grey and the walls dove, above the ceiling is made from those polystyrene squares laid on a grid-like frame. The light is too bright for my eyes, I find it abrasive, enough perhaps to bring on one of my migraines. There are commercial prints on the wall, tasteful in the dull kind of way. Ahhh ofcourse- i'm in the medical room, located in the upper west wing of our school.

"What happened?" I asked, my voice sounding hoarse.

"You fainted" Zoey replied, "I was walking past the office and saw you fall, homeroom finished and I quickly called the girls, you were suddenly sweating and trembling, tears down your face before you went out"

What? Did that really happen? The last thing I really remembered was....him.

"Are you ok? We were so worried!" Adrianna asked, while Madison hugs me.

"I'm fine!" I reassured, patting them down, "where's Dani?"

In that exact moment, Dani came jostling through the door with 5 lattes. "I'm here! I'm here!" she hurries, lays them down carefully on the stool next to my bed. "Oh! You're awake! Are you okay?" she questions, giving me an worried once over.

Madison added, "Yeah, are you sure you're oka-"

"If I were any better, I'd be Beyoncé" I interrupted. "Guys, I'm fine" I repeated, stretching out the 'fine' to emphasise my point.

Suddenly a female doctor enters the room with a clipboard. She has posture of a soldier, every action she took was precise and purposeful.
"You all need to leave, I need to examine your friend before I can let her go" the doctor- I looked at her name tag 'Dr. P Brannin'- exclaimed, looking expectantly at them to go to the waiting room.
After they left, she smiled in the cold and distant way professionals do and stood next to me. Whoever can relax around such expressions...is in serious need of some TLC. I need a genuine face, preferably a smile, but if not I'd rather they didn't fake it.

Her eyes were devoid of any make-up and her hair was in a tight bun, not a strand out of place. Through the examination she gave commands rather than requests. She made a clicking noise with her tongue before pursing withered lips, finally hiding her yellow teeth and cutting off the smell of garlic. When the prodding was over I dropped my eyes to the covers in anticipation of her speaking to me, but when I raised them again she had opened the door to say "you can leave, a follow-up is not needed unless the symptoms return" and left me in the room.

The bell screeched, indicating lunch and everyone was rushing to head outside or the cafeteria.

You would always hear the cafeteria before you walked into it. A cacophony of loud chatter, each table surrounded by a huddle of people raising their voices to be heard above the chatty uproar.
It's a grand place, to say the least. Long rectangular oak tables were scattered across the canteen, the ceiling flecked with bright lights, adorned with large windows displaying the view of the outside and ahhhhh the food.

You know how I said school was....well basically another way of saying hell, well the food was definitely not torturing or tormenting in any way shape or form.

Yes, school meals have a reputation of being disgusting, tasteless and bland, but when the school has money that isn't really a predicament. Each section of the canteen is separated according to the different types of food. The healthy section, the junk food section and the school meals/dinner section.

Obviously your girl's home is the junk food section.
Racks are laden with delicacies, everything you can think of, and things you have never dreamed of, lie in wait. On most days they served delectable steaming burgers oozing with sauce and juicy goodness, stacks of all types of pizza sublimed with succulent cheese, crunchy mouth-watering tacos dripping with Tabasco sauce, swelled blueberry or chocolate or vanilla muffins, mouth-watering luscious chicken and hot wings. From where I was standing the smell is wafting with rich aroma, promising a delightful taste. I imagine a toothsome warm mixture in my salivating mouth, I sigh contently... it's pure ambrosia.

What sane person doesn't like food?

Laughter sounds along the halls, joined with excited conversations and shouts. Model worthy girls perch on the tables like exotic birds gossiping and giggling, a football flies above their heads between two sport freaks parading their toned muscles. Groups of high schoolers sit around the room laughing and causing all kinds of ruckus, all except one group that sit silently staring at laptop screens with massive headphones which appear to be permanently strapped to their head.

Gossip traded like poker chips every day, always there's something new and scandalous-worthy to talk about, and of course today all you could hear is the forthcoming party that happens every year when school began, Friday later this week.
That wasn't the only topic though, talk of a new boy was passed around like a hot potato. And not just any new boy, an attractive new boy. And trust me, they don't come around often.

Linking arms with Adrianna, Madison and Dani, we pace to the lunch queue peacefully- that was until glances, whispers and giggles start formulating in the air about my amazing choice of dress code. Yes, green is the new trend now.

I can't help but think back to what happened earlier, since the incident that dark haired boy is ingrained into my mind. His eyes penetrate all my thoughts, how could it be that those enigmatic eyes could dig back my past, my secrets and my deep memories was beyond me.
Plopping down in the middle of the canteen with our food, we all listened to Madison's crazy story of how she got chased by a horse over the summer.

Outside, the sky brought comfort to me, filled with mysteries and endless amounts of over flowing wonders, an uninterrupted blue that stretches seamlessly across my field of vision. Everything was going smoothly, (well except my disconcerting thoughts) we were laughing, sharing stories, picking off bits of food from each other. The hall was lively all right, the first day of the year was kicking off to a great start.

And what better way to start drama with Zoey stumbling in frantically, with her once-perfectly applied red lipstick now smeared around her mouth, the top few buttons of her shirt opened and hair slightly tousled.
She attempts to smudge off the lipstick and fix herself before coming to join us.
Before we could say anything about her usual antics and which boy it was this time- the same boy that was entrenched into my head strides in.

With traces of red on his lip.
