he was hunched over gritted teeth

hands clawing at the tangled mat of hair

boots tattooing a rhythm

mud spattered mingled with blood

the stench of dread thick in the air

a perturbed comrade frozen mid action

it gnawed away

like the mice like the rats

eating away till only

a battered husk remained

a fragile piece of hope rattled within

till it shattered

the soldier sprauchled forward

a tortured cry tore from his lips

an inhumane anguished diapason of mania

his tired bloodshot eyes ripped around

bruised limbs charged with electricity

the electricity of fear.
