Chapter 2

We went in class just in time. Best part is that the teacher haven't arrived. There were two chairs left, so we took them. I took the chair at the fourth column while Nikki sat in front of me, behind the green-skinned girl. She seems to have a conversation with that girl. Hmm. Strange. Maybe I should go to them.

But too late. The teacher arrived inside for class.

"Good morning, students," she began. "I'm Ms. Homie, your Homeroom teacher for the rest of the school year. To know everyone better, I think it's best if you all work in pairs."

She paused for a while to get the paper that was inside the book. "In this paper is the list of pairs. I will only say it once. First, Nikki Maxwell will be paired up to Medusa Snakeypoo," she continued.

I tapped Nikki's shoulder. She didn't respond. I tapped her shoulder once more. She turned her back and I asked , "Is Medusa the girl in front of you?"

"Yes, why?"

"Nothing. Just curious," I said. I plopped back to my seat. Finally, I heard my name being mentioned by the teacher. Now my question is, "Who is Kyle Asperga, exactly?" I don't even know him!

"You can now go to your partners. Plan about how to get your partner to know you better. Your deadline is on Wednesday. No extensions!"

I buried my nose on the textbook I was reading. Suddenly, a boy came near me. He looked like one year older than me or same.

"Hi there! Are you new? I'm Kyle, by the way," he said.

"Uh, hello," I started talking. "I'm Thea and yes, I'm new."

"Is that so?" he asked me. I just nodded. I buried again nose to the book.

"So," he interrupted. "Where are we going to do it? The assignment, I mean."

I thought for a moment. I stared at him for a while. I have to admit, he is handsome. Hello? I just met him! I can't fall for someone that fast.

"Thea, where now?" Kyle asked me, interrupting my thoughts.

"Oh, um, maybe we should do it at your house," I said swiftly. "But I have to ask my parents first if they will allow me."

The bell rang. I stood up and picked up my things. "I guess I'll see you later. Bye," I called to him while going out of the classroom. But I guess he didn't hear me. Well, better get going to my next class.
