It has been a year since Kale and I left the hotel. A year of check-ups, book signings, and love. We have been together through it all, and I think we finally found our landing from this crazy plane ride called life.
My father never did call, but I heard he is still happily married to Jane. On a brighter note, I did get in contact with my mom. I never really got answers on why she left, that topic seems to be avoided when I ask about it, so I learned to move on and just be thankful I can have her in my life again.
"Looks like we're done," Kale says as he helps me into my coat.
"Time to go home. I bet you're excited to drive back," I say sarcastically. Kale rolls his eyes at this playfully, grabbing my hand as we walk to our car behind the building. We never got over the fear of flying on planes, so we don't go anywhere unless it's by vehicle.
"I'm just glad this is our last book signing," I say, "I can't wait to sleep in our own bed."
"I can't wait to do other things in our own bed," Kale comments, throwing me a wink.
"Oh shut up," is all I come up witht to hide the blush spreading across my cheeks.

"Mrs. Knight," says a woman once I open my front door. "I believe this is for you."
Confused, I take the large envelope the lady is handing out to me. My maiden name is written on the letter which only adds to my confusion. Ever since Kale and I had our wedding, I have never had any friends that knew my maiden name. I was always regarded as Mrs. Knight.
Before I can ask questions, the lady speaks up. "Your father has passed away and this is what he is giving to you." After that she walks away to her car, and drives away.
As terrible as it may seem, I have no sudden depressed emotion after hearing my father has died. I barely knew the man, it was like saying to me some guy in England just died. Of course it is sad, but it isn't something I spend a lot of time crying about.
Tearing open the letter, I take out the contents. Most likely, Jane has gotten everything. But I am shocked to see it is the house deed and money in my father's bank account.
"Kale!" I shout, overwhelmed with the discovery.
Kale is down the stairs moments later, rushing to my side.
"What's the matter?" he asks. Unable to explain, I hand him the envelope.
"Holy shit," he mutters under his breath. "I guess you weren't kidding when you said he was loaded."
"I just don't understand. Why is he giving me this?"
Kale is quiet for a moment before he looks up and replies, "guilt."

As selfish as it is, Kale and I kept most of the money. We gave about a third of the eight digit bank account balance to various charities. Most of the remaining amount went to moving from a dumpy apartment to my father's old home. The house wasn't too big, two floors with with tree room and a large pool with a nice deck connected to the main bedroom looking over the pool. All things inside the house were discarded except old things I cherished such as photos, books, or things from my childhood.
The biggest room with the balcony went to Kale and I. The other three rooms were created into a study with two desks, one for Kale and one for me, a fitness room, and a pet room for animals. Our british shorthair, Ash, and our pomeranian, Daisy, get along great. They intend on being our only babies as Kale and I agreed we do not wish to have children.
Career wise, Kale started directing short films on YouTube. As he got more publicity for his creative and dynamic storylines, he got a call from Fox to direct a movie created by him. So after the span of three years, Kale finally started accomplishing his dream and I couldn't be more proud.
As for me, I have stuck with my publisher, Linda Petom, to write three more books. Only two have been published with the other on it's way, but the story is set to be in stores in about two months.
But publishing was put on hold when it was discovered Kale had a tumor.
It was a small tumor, easy to remove, but when you are in that situation your whole world stops. If he had postponed his check up anymore than he had already, the surgery could have been risky. Our lives aren't very interesting, work and the unsettling truth we are almost thirty, but we make time for each other. I guess it is cheesy how we ended up together, but I can't help but be thankful for Boarding Flight 227.
~End~
Author's note:
This is it guys! I think it was simple and sweet but there really isn't much to add to the story.
At first I was going to have one of the characters die or have them drift apart after the hospital, which does sound like a better idea, but I think I will do something more emotional with another story.
I'm sorry it took so long to update. I had the first part of this written for a long time but didn't know what to do after. For anyone who didn't know, Kale and Candace get married. I didn't add this but Jane had died a year after the father.
But, yeah. I have cool ideas for other stories, who knows when they will be added. I probably will read other books for a while before I get the motivation to write :3.
Thank you so much for reading this, you lovely passangers. Until next time,
-Bethany:)
