"I know, we're gonna change the world Ad. No one can stop us!" she declares as Declan walks into the room. "Especially not General D."

She brightly smiles at Declan who makes a face at the childhood nickname. She explained to me once that the "General" is cause he's so protective of us, but especially me and the "D" for reasons that are classified, top-secret.

"Oh hey Rembot, who let you back in the country?" he replies with a smirk and throws the soccer ball he has in his hands at her back.

"They begged me to come back, who else would save Addie from your mandatory six a.m. bootcamp? You still failing out of med school?" she banters back.

"You know I'm like second in my class, dummy," he brags, "and my six a.m. workouts are training her to run away from you and your bear hugs," he answers with a charming smile.

"You can join us if you want. Might help get you out of hibernation a little early this season," he jokes. She rolls her eyes and dismisses him with her hand. Declan loves Remy like a little sister and they are constantly teasing each other about the most random things.

"Anyways," she sighs turning to me again, "enough about my voluptuous, womanly curves and love of sleep. Are we going to The Bode?"

"Yes, let me just pack up some leftovers and we can bring them by with the canned goods." We walk to the kitchen and Remy greets Aunty Clara with a hug. I start packing up the leftovers when Declan comes back in, dressed in his soccer uniform.

"You can't be serious Addie," he says, "it's dark, you two should not be going there at this hour." He turns to Auntie Clara who is washing the dishes. "Auntie Clara, you're okay with this?"

"When have I ever been able to stop them Declan?" She places a dish on the drying rack. "I mean, it's great that you do this girls, but can't it wait till morning?" she asks with slight worry in her voice.

"Auntie, you know that a lot of these people only stay at most one night. It's too dangerous otherwise and they need food." I finish packing up the leftover stew and the rest of the canned goods. "Plus the other volunteers will be there too, so we'll be okay," I reply in an attempt to soothe her concern.

"Fine, but I'll drop you off myself and scope out the area," Declan insists, begrudgingly.

"Don't you have like a club game with all of your hot almost-doctor friends?" asks Remy wiggling her eyebrows. Declan rolls his eyes and grabs his keys off the counter.

"Yeah and if I'm late again, I'll just tell them that you needed a consultation for a new rash ointment," he teases not waiting for a retort as he heads to the car. Remy, slightly fuming, grabs the two paper bags filled with cans and follows him, ready to give Declan a piece of her mind. I finish packing the last bag when Aunty Clara suddenly grabs my wrist with her wet and soapy hand.

"They can't find out about us Adelaide." Her grip on my wrist tightens slightly. Her statement is a command. "You of all people know how dangerous it is out there for wolves with no pack," she says with unwavering eyes. I place my other hand above her own and her grip loosens.

"I know Auntie. I'll be careful," I promise with assurance in my eyes.

She turns back to the dishes as if our little moment had never happened and I walk out of the house, ready to face another night at The Bode.
