"The Awakening created hope.
The Awakening gave us a new beginning.
The Awakening saved us.
The Awakening is ALL."
I recited the anthem in my usual monotone voice and rolled my eyes. This was not the first time I had to show loyalty to The GOVERNMENT. And it would not be the last. My mistakes came in numbers.
Teacher ordered me to be seated.
Teacher began to start the lesson of the day, droning on and on about something like correct grammar.
I wasn't paying attention. In fact, no one ever did. After school we would only be required to get settled down, start a family, and only possibly get a job. Why would we do much of anything else?
Fifteen minutes later Teacher announced that we were dismissed.
We fled the room.
I continued to my locker, fetching my black Nike brand book bag and tossing it over my shoulder. It was the end of the day, so I gradually trekked the half mile home.
Alone as always.
