The Moon's Blessings

Chapter 3

Six years had passed since the birth of Mika Bluejay had been born and another blessing had been given.

It had been another ordinary day in the hound boys life as he ran away from the maid's, who constantly smothered him in kisses and always smelt of laundry cleaner, as well as thoroughly pinched cheeks that were bright red once he managed to escape. All the hard working men had a soft spot for the tiny thing that ran around like a small squirrel on sweet tree sap. They always ruffled his white strands until he felt dizzy and light headed. Every single one on that land was fiercely protective of the miniscule boy and would do anything to protecte him, no matter the cost.

That day, all the workers and maid's had been too distracted with the oncoming festivities and their duties, to pay any mind to the children as they played about the yard. The ladies had to clean the Manor and prepair meals upon meals for their ginrmous husbands and their equally large appetites. The men had to stock upon fire wood and meat of any sorts for the upcoming winter months that slowly crept up on them.

Louis McGuire, Mika's best friend, had been searching frantically for his wee friend. He could not find his best friend anywhere! A giggling Mika heard his best friend's frustrated noises behind the long drapes by the windows, he hid behind.

Louis knew from experience not to play hide and seek with Mika as he was the tiniest amoungst all the boys in the yard, who knew how to disguise himself really well.

“Mikaaa...”,whined Louis. He felt his heart clench and eyes burn as he grew more and more frustrated with Mika. He sniffled and rubbed at his eyes as he passed the very same window drapes his best friend hid behind.

Mika heard Louis sniff and knew that the game was up and his friend grew frustrated and anxious. There was a flurry of drapes as Mika shot his hand out and grabbed the back of Louis' shirt and pinned him to the wall. A hand clamped down on his mouth, so Louis would not scream out of fright.

Wide forest green eyes met that of sparkling gray eyes. Louis inwardly marveled at the other boys white hair as the light played with it, or how small Mika's hands were against his lips or how close he was to his body. Louis couldn't get enough of his miniscule bestfriend.

“Hello Lou”, whispered Mika. A furious blush coated Louis' face from the close contact and warmth from Mika's breath.
Mika dropped his hands from Louis and hugged him, for upsetting him in the first place. He tilted his head upwards and placed a platonic kiss on Louis glowing red cheeks. A squeak came from Louis as Mika sighed happily.

“Come on!”, exclaimed Mika as he dragged his best friend outside and to the edge of the woods.

“Nuh-uh. Your Mama is gonna beat us for going into the woods again. She told me to be a big boy and take care of you 'cause I'm older,” gloated a delightful Louis, knowing Mika detested being reminded how young he was compared to the other boys his age.

But this time Mika paid no mind to the taunt that was thrown his way. As a matter of fact he made no sound to indicate that he had heard Louis speak. He intently stared at the forest and knew, absolutely knew without a doubt that he had to head into the dark forest.
