I flutter in and out of sleep. My eyes never open though, I remain still, un-moving. Am I dead? I can't be... can I? This is insane. I should be able to move if I'm alive, I should be able to hear, I should be able to...
"Talk to me Yuna," someone's crying. Jaemin? "Please... miss... voice." It's fuzzing I can only hear some words. I slowly make out the steady beeps of a machine. My finger moves.
"She moved," I hear another male's voice say. "Quick get the," they run out before finishing the sentence. Where am i? I feel a hand hold mine softly and rub it. I slowly open my eyes, a blonde boy sits in front of me.
"Yuna," he smiles and hugs me. I know him, what's his name? I recognise his slim face and small cute eyes. "I was so worried." A remember a little boy, he'd always tell me that when we were younger. "I'm always worried about you. Always have been worried."
"Jisung?" I mutter. He nods his head. "I remembered you." I smile. He smiles back. Suddenly, my back rises. I hear yelling as my body shakes uncontrollably and I writhe in pain.
"Her hearts broken again!" I hear someone yell.
"I thought she was fine," it's Jisung.
"So did we," the unfamiliar voice answers.
"Keep her safe, I don't know what I'll do without her," he cries. I feel something wet land on my hand and sink into my skin. It warms me up and I stop shaking, however my back arches. I feel warm liquid flowing into my heart and suddenly it's easy to breathe and all my pain fades away. I gently lay myself down with my eyes closed. I feel someone hold my wrist and check for my pulse.
"She's dead," I hear the man say. Jisung cries out. I can't be dead, how would I be able to think if I were dead. "Time is 2:31pm on 30th September 2023." He sighs. "I'll leave you two alone for a bit." I'm not dead. I try to move my limb but it doesn't move. I try to speak but my tongue and throat stay still like a statue.
"Why didn't you tell me, you'd had your heart broken? I could have helped you," He questions. "If only you could hear me, or respond to me?" More tears drip onto my hand and arm. I would be tearing up too, if I could. Is this what Jaemin felt that day? Could he hear me crying out to him?
"Jaemin press the break," I say.
"It won't work-" I see the car ram into ours. It slams into Jaemin's door and shatters the glass. Thousands of tiny glass shards scatter into our skin cutting each and every inch of my body. My head slams into the front of the car where the air bag should be.
I slowly open my eyes to the sound of a phone buzzing, it goes to voicemail.
"Hey Jaemin, this is Jeno, I know you're going out with Yuna for her 18th birthday, but don't use the car. When I took it out the yesterday the break took a while to work, I was going to tell you but it slipped my mind, I've arranged to get it looked at tomorrow. Anyway have fun and don't do anything I wouldn't do. Bye," Jeno knew about the break, why didn't he say anything. I turn my head and feel a throbbing bruise on my head. But that's barely a problem compared to the dripping of gasoline. I move but scream in pain due the broken bones in my arm. Jaemin's still laying knocked out. I undo my seat belt and climb through the shattered window as my car door is laying against the ground. I pant, squeezing my way out of the frame. Jaemin's seat-belt has wrapped around his wrist. There's no way to get him out, painlessly. I bash open the glove box and take out the pair of scissors we keep in there just in case. I begin to saw away at the seat belt, scrapping between the polyester as his soft white skin. Once I cut through the belt, I hear the dripping noise speed up. Pulling Jaemin out of the window uses nearly all my strength.
"Yuna..." I hear Jaemin say faintly. "What happened?" I heave him off the bonnet onto the concrete ground.
"The car's breaks broke," I answer. "Not in the right way though." He smiles slightly. "Can you move?" I say placing him on the ground and brushing the hair out of his eyes and wiping some of the blood away. I see him try to move, but he screams out in pain.
"My back hurts, can you look?" he asks. I nod my head and carefully roll him over and see a sharp bone poking out his back, it's a piece of his vertebrae that has come dislodged and split. The blood around it has oxidised but a little leak is continuing to spill around the blackened and bruised skin.
"You'll be... fine," I lie. He smiles. "I'm going to get the phone from inside." I stand up, thanking god that my leg isn't broken. I have to stay strong, we'll make it. Why do we have to be so out of the way? Reaching in, I can see the phone screen lit up with an image of me him and Jeno. It's all your fault Jeno. Quickly, I grab it and rush out, knowing that the car's engine is on. I call the emergency services.
"We need an ambulance," I say into the phone. I look around for street signs only one can be seen. I tell the woman on the phone our location. She tells me not to worry and that they'll be there soon. Unfortunately, I hear the car begin to make loud noises and smoke coming off of it. I rush over to Jaemin, he has a puddle of blood coming out of his back and a stream of something connecting him and the car. Gasoline. It's gasoline. I look between him and the smoke, before rushing over to him. I grab him and begin to pull him away.
"Yuna, please leave," I hear him muster. "I've broken my back and the cars about to blow up. Whatever happens, I'll die. You don't have to as well."
"I can't leave you to do alone," I tell him.
"I'm not alone," he answers smiling. "I will always be with you."
"No I can't go, you shouldn't die like this, you deserve better," I cry, warm tears dripping onto his face.
"I love you, don't die like this."
I lean over. Our lips connect. His soft one's against mine. For the first time. For the last time.
