49 days in the Downworld
Several weeks had passed since Shane's first mission. Cassius forced him to commit the impossible, manipulated him into becoming a cold blooded killer. The Reaper. He still felt the warm blood of the innocent Fractars he slayed, still heard the undying sobs of the traumatized child, still perceived the echoes of a begging father, and a terrified mother... Shane had changed, after that. He did not say a word during the following days, as if silenced by the psychological trauma he had endured, and had nightmares all night, vivid dreams of the horrors he committed.
What had he become?
Cassius, tyrannical and manipulative Master of Caelum, had given since then a few missions, less bloody, to his Champion. Without any hesitation this time, Shane accepted, completed and endured the task. Perhaps he had accepted his fate, or maybe it simply was a survival necessity. Burn down a farm. Punish a family in debt. Publicly beat down a couple thieves. Simple missions for a terrifying figure such as the Reaper, but painful acts for the man behind the mask. In the meantime, he had been given his own sort of house, a place of privacy, in Cassius' court. Of course, this didn't change much, but at least he wasn't locked up in a cage anymore, like a feral animal...
He also had been taught more about this world... The Downworld. He learned about the creatures living in the different areas, the civilizations and empires, the other Masters, and so much more... Secretly, Shane wanted to go on a quest for knowledge. He was intrigued, somehow. In this world, where technology was not even a word, Shane had to adapt, to learn. Find ways to empower himself and be able to survive. Slowly, the flame of hope started to burn within him. After all, maybe he could get out of here. Maybe he could get his past life back?
