The Downworld is a pocket dimension, parallel to our own, but aligned to another timeline. Time passes differently, but there are much more things different about it. The landscapes, the weather, the atmosphere, and most importantly, the creatures living there... It is not a planet, and so, it does not have any satellite, or any sun. This world is a flat world, with limited borders. The only source of light are the Mystical Wells, which emit undying light toward the sky, and enlighten the surroundings.

The Shadowed Plains are what the Downworld is mostly made of (about half of the topography). There lies enormous plains, with basic vegetation, and eventual little woods and rivers. In this area, almost no light reaches the ground, as dark clouds constantly cover the sky, giving the plains their iconic name. In terms of location, the plains are at the center of the Downworld, and is the most populated area, with about fifteen medieval-like cities spread across these lands. Many creatures live there, such as:

Fractars: Human-like people, with greyish skin, black eyes. The men have no hair, while the women have long white hair. Their organism is a bit different from humans, but they are overall quite similar. They live in a society based on hunting and agriculture, are the first to create a market between multiple cities, and started commercial exchanges. Their number is estimated to be (in the Plains only) around two millions, and live in all the Downworld's areas.
Kyres: More combatant than the Fractars, the Kyres are humanoid warriors with orange skin and reddish markings, sharpened fangs instead of simple teeth, and generally superior musculature. They live for honor and battle, but can be quite intelligent too, and are known to be very creative people. Kyres are mainly soldiers, builders or forgers, and along with some Fractars and other creatures, are part of the resistance to the Masters' dominance. The Kyre population is estimated to be close to 800K individuals
Trolls: Originally cave and mountain creatures, Trolls have been used as labor forces by the Masters, and are powerhouses within their armies as well. Strong, durable and twice as tall as a man, Trolls are feared creatures, despite their low intelligence'. About 20K Trolls live in the Downworld (although not all of them are enslaved by Cassius and Maxime)
Goblins: Goblins are little creatures, living in huge packs, and generally serve an intelligent superior being such as a Master. There are many kinds of Goblins: some have bat-like wings, others are bigger than usual, but most of them are just little dark green creatures with sharp fangs and claws, capable of speaking any language. They are vicious creatures, very deadly when in group. It is unknown how much Goblins live in the Downworld, or how many serve Maxime and Cassius. But Cassius has been shown using shadow portals to allow his many goblins to travel to wherever he wants them to be.
Banshees: Banshees are female spirits, haunting travelers near the rivers, in the Shadowed Plains. They are greyish human figure, born from the death of female human magicians over the centuries. Doing so, there isn't many of them. A Banshee haunts one river only, and is capable of teleporting to any point of that river. Feeding off its victims' soul, Banshees can grow very powerful, but have no real purpose, besides haunting, and haunting again...
Hellhounds: Massive blacks or grey dogs with cracked open burning veins, hunting in packs of twelve to fifteen, very durable and agressive. They are the best hunting creatures in the entire realm, and are often used by Masters to track enemies down, thanks to their mystical senses.
Witches/Wizards: Over the years, hundreds of human magicians have been banished to the Downworld. Although many died, others have learned to adapt and survive, and have started a community of Witches, living mainly in the Plains. Today, there are about five hundreds Witches and Wizards living in the Plains, the Desert and the Mountains.
Denomins: Mostly living in caves, a few hundreds Denomins have migrated to the cities in the Shadowed Plain. They are humanoid reptile-like creatures, with a pterodactyl head, and a rather big reptile tail.
Umbra Assassins: Human-like beings with extraordinary speed, agility and skills, known as the best assassins in the Downworld. Their black suit emits dark smoke as they move, and allows them to remain invisible in darkness... They have guilds in the Desert and Mountain areas as well, but are more active in the Plains.
Ghouls: Ghost-like creatures, servants of Cassius. They are capable of traveling to other worlds, and are quite ferocious monsters
