The next day, Y/n was in a complete frenzy. She paced around the control room, checking the security cameras and keeping an eye on the phone in case anybody called about Drift's whereabouts.
Carbide walked down the stairs with a coffee in hand. He took a drink of it while watching Y/n rush around, confused as to what she was doing down here so early.
"Y/n?" he asked. "What are you doing? You normally don't work down here..." Carbide mumbled.
"Sorry, I'm just checking. I'm going nuts," she sighed, her eyes focused on the security cameras in front of her.
The SSDT had access to all the security cameras around the island - so if Drift was anywhere in plain sight, they could catch him with ease.
"Why?" Carbide walked over to her and set down his coffee on the table. He crossed his arms and leaned on the desk, "John or I could do that for you. You haven't slept much, you should probably get some rest," he said.
"I can't. I have to make sure we find Drift before the 15th, remember? I can't risk loosing him. Not again," she frowned, switching the camera from Retail to Salty.
"Are you.. sure Drift told you that or was it just your imagination?" Carbide asked. "I'm not saying I don't believe you, anything helps here, I'm just concerned you're overthinking things."
Y/n ran her fingers through her hair and groaned, "I don't know anymore, Bide. When he grabbed my hand it felt real. He was real. He's in real danger, Carbide. I know it. He told me specifically, and I quote, 'Make sure you and the SSDT get to Loot Lake on September 19th so you can stop him.' How else am I supposed to interpret that? He needs us," she said.
Carbide nodded, "I believe you. I'm glad he was able to contact you," he smiled.
"Thanks, me, too."
Just then, John walked down the stairs.
"Uhm. Y/n?" he asked, confused. "You don't-"
"I know, I know, John; Carbide already interrogated me," she chuckled.
"This is so frustrating that we can't get into the bunker. Kevin is down there doing God knows what right beneath us and we can't do shit about it!" Y/n groaned in frustration.
"I know, Y/n/n. We'll find Drift. I promise. We're so close. We know where he is, we just have to catch him when he's out. That's why we're checking the cameras so much," John said. "Go get some rest, okay? I know you don't like getting up before 10, anyway," he chuckled.
She nodded, the tiredness sinking into her system alerting her of her desperate need of rest, "I'll be back soon, I'm gonna take a nap," she said. She walked up the stairs and up to her room to take a quick nap before the craziness got to her.
Carbide was right - she was sleep deprived. She had spent so much time to find Drift that she forgot about her own health in the process. She lost sleep and didn't eat as much - she was too wrapped up in finding her lost boyfriend to care about anything else.
.:: Long time skip ::.
It was now September 15th.
Today was the day where Kevin's plan would be put into play.
Drift was nervous as he floated around the cube.
"KEVIN!" he yelled. "I KNOW YOU CAN HEAR ME YOU FUCKING JERK! WHAT ARE YOU PLANNING?"
Suddenly, Drift was brought from the cube back into his body again. At least, he was forced into the back of Kevin's mind within Drift's body. It's complicated.
"Drift. The time has come. In just 4 hours, my plan will be complete. I've done all I can, now it is up to you," Kevin said.
"What do you mean? Am I gaining back my body now?" Drift asked.
"Yes. But I will still be able to regain control incase you try anything," Kevin warned. "So don't bother."
"Okay..." Drift mumbled, "What am I supposed to do?"
"I will go back into the Cube and make it move. Once it is at the pier, about to fall into the lake, you must touch it. The power from your mask, mixed with your earth energy and my own power combined will be enough to cause myself to fall into the Lake. From then, you just watch."
"Simple enough," Drift sighed. "I'm.. I'm ready."
Kevin nodded. Suddenly, Drift slipped out of consciousness for a moment as he began to retain his feeling and control over his body. He collapsed onto the cold, stone floor as he regained full control.
After a moment, Drift opened his eyes and breathed in deeply. Slowly, he stood himself back up; unstable from not having a physical body for so long.
He touched his arm, face, and hair to make sure it was truly real that he was back. He grinned as he realized that he truly was back in his body.
"Hah! Fuck you, Kevin! I'm back!" Drift shouted excitedly.
"Not so fast," Kevin chuckled. Drift groaned, "You again."
"Indeed. I still am in your head. Like I said, if you try anything I will know about it and stop you, and you will be punished," he said warily. "So be careful."
"Okay," Drift said.
"It is time, Drift. Head to the Lake and do whatever you can to be discrete about it," Kevin commanded. "We have the whole entire island on our tail thanks to your pathetic girlfriend."
Drift rolled his eyes and he exited the bunker, preparing his long walk to Loot Lake.
Elsewhere, Y/n, Raptor, Carbide, and John were having breakfast at Dusty Diner. They were laughing, joking, and having an amazing time - like nothing ever happened.
"You know, this is honestly the happiest I've been since Drift went missing. I'm really sorry I've been such a downer on things," Y/n sighed. "I just didn't know how to deal with my emotions properly."
"That's quite alright, Y/n," John said, smiling, "We understand how hard this is for you. Let's finish up and then we'll get back to patrolling the Lake, okay?"
Y/n nodded and went back to eating the rest of her waffle, when John's phone began to ring.
He took it out of his pocket and looked at the caller. He furrowed his brows, and answered it.
"Valor?"
John listened to what she was saying closely. His expression changed from happy to serious, "You found him?!"
Y/n froze.
They found Drift?
"Well where the hell is he!" John shouted.
Y/n waited for him to be finished, her heartbeat excelling by the second with fear and excitement.
Come on, old man, finish up already!
"We'll be right there! Make sure he doesn't leave!" John commanded. He hung up the phone quickly and scurried to get out his wallet, "We gotta go. Now," John said, standing up from his chair.
"What's going on?" Raptor asked with a mouthful of food. "Swallow that and let's get out of here!" John shouted at Raptor.
"Mr. Wick? What happened?" Y/n asked worriedly. "They found Drift. You were right. He's headed to Loot Lake right now. Valor, Squaddie, and Battlehawk are there now hiding to see what he does until we get there. I'm going to go pay but the second I get back we have to get to the car, now," John said quickly.
He left the table and rushed to pay for their food as the rest of the squad got their stuff together.
Y/n was beaming with happiness as she quickly finished the rest of her food.
Drift was alive.
