Dawn's Awakening

Bodies piled the gross dirt floors. Their blood soaked into the red dirt, leaving no trace of its presence. In each corner of each room were people, all huddled, watching the horrors take place. In the center of the cells was a single wooden chair. It had accessories like straps, metal cuffs, and a chain that was attached around the legs of the chair. It looked like an execution chair, and was used as so. People were tried and tested on that same chair, the blood stains telling their stories. The arms of the wooden chair had claw mark. They were deep, as if every person had scratched the same. But the marks were so small, as if marked with small hands. The cell bars were very tightly spaced, an adult hand couldn't even fit in between them. One cell held a small child, strapped to the chair awaiting her execution. My execution. I was maybe 7-8 years old sitting in the cold, blood stained chair. I cracked my head over the chair back, looking out the crack to the outside world. Oh how I wanted in. The sent gently caressed my nostrils, a euphoria took over me and I dreamed of the outside world.

"Freedom" I whispered to myself. Before I could take another whiff of the scent my cell was opened. I barely popped my head up to see over my chin. Instead of the other experiments they usually sent, there was an adult male. He was thrown in roughly. His capturerer threw a knife to him and said,

"Use it" His voice made my blood stop. It was like a rush of pure adrenaline. The sickness inside pulsed me pulsed with his presence. The man turned around and started screaming at the being. Punching the bars and trying to reach him with the knife. The man outside simply took a step back. He smiled with the most terrifying and wicked grin.

"Number 01." He called, "The first successful experiment yet." He walked forward and grabbed the arm of the man. Stressing the cell bars in the process. He moved his hand to grab his chin to face me and held him in place as the man struggled. "Whoever wins this duel will get a reward. He wins , he gets out of here and released, you win and i'll get you out of this cell." I moved slightly trying to show interest. My chance, my next step towards freedom. My imprisoner grinned at me. I'm sure he was thinking what could a child do to me? " Then begin." He let go of the soldier and dropped him to the ground. He looked back and forth between me and the man behind the bars. I squirmed beneath my restraints. The chair winching at my movement. The soldier watched in amusement at I struggled against my restraints. He grabbed the knife that was recently thrown at him. He was different. The others stood there, scared to hold any kind of weapon but he stood there with full confidence he could kill a child. He didn't shake holding the knife, he wasn't scared to look at me. It was exhilarating. Someone that I deserved to fight. I forced one hand out of the restraint, breaking the metal cuff. The other came with ease but the arm of the chair followed. As I stood the legs of the chair broke, allowing to get my smalls hands on the cuffs and remove them from my limbs. When I stood, the collar around my neck beeped. A little light that was once red turned green. Little needles stabbed my neck, feeling all too close to my jugular. I was unsure what was in the collar but it only fueled my powers. Something cold pumped into me clouding my mind but making my frail body stronger. Adrenaline hit me like a truck, a rush of euphoria and anger mixed together. All I felt was pure bliss, I longed for the freedom I constantly dreamed of. Finally facing the soldier I rushed the him, faster than I have ever moved. He readied himself for my attack, raising his knife to the same level as his nose. His eyes lacked any fear, he's done this before. I reached my hand forward at an incredible speed, but somehow he dodged my blunt attack. I hit the bars behind him, leaving a nasty dent on the hard metal. His brought his knife down on me, cutting deep into my shoulder. He promptly jumped back, taking the knife with him. Blood sprayed from me. It painted the dark wall beside me, matching its color. The dark, sable color surprised me. I hadn't seen it in so long I forgot what it looked like. It's unnatural color shocked the soldier as well. But he spent no time thinking about the matter as he rushed me once again. Quickly ducking he swiped above me as I threw my right fist into his ribs, breaking many. He winced at my attack clutching his left side. As he was stunned I ran at him and attempted to get another shot at his abdomen, but he pushed my head to the ground and stabbed at my neck. The knife pierced through my skin and dug under my collar. I laid on the ground holding my neck. I couldn't breath, my vision spun. The man stood back breathing heavily.

"Fucking freak" He gasped through short breaths of air. He looked back at the cell bars, looking for the stranger. Out of the dark he stepped forward with the same sadistic smile he always wore. The soldier walked up and threw the knife at the stranger.

"I did your task, now let me the fuck out of here!" The stranger unlocked the bars and slowly opened them. The man began to step forward when I pierced his chest with my hand.

"How?" He wheezed. The blood around my neck moved to fix my wound. I promptly removed my hand. His blood spraying out in front of him. As he hit the ground the stranger reached his hand out to me. My collar beeped once more, the needles retracting from my neck. I fell to my knees, exhausted. The stranger stepped into my cell and loomed over me.

                     "Welcome home, Number 01"
