"I have to say, you've definitely surprised me number one." The strange man said to me. I was chained to the wall this time, my hands in metal cuffs. He wore an all black suit with a red tie. His hair all salt and pepper. He squatted down to my level, our eyes meeting.
"You impress me everyday child, so remarkable." He said as he put his hand on my head. His leather gloves were warm to my freezing form. His expression was an obvious smile, but it felt fake and cold.
"The more you do here the closer you get to freedom. Continue on this path and I might just let you see daylight..." He trailed off. The man got up and retrieved something from the tray next to him. It was a black handgun. He played with the side arm for a moment before saying,
"Bring in the next subjects." a quiet 'yes sir' was said as I heard chains moving. A young woman lead two people to my cage, their eyes covered and wrists bound. As they entered, I noticed they had collars like mine. They're children, like me. She sat them right in front of me and took off their blind folds. A little girl and boy stared back at me. I frowned, they weren't like me. Their eyes seemed normal as did their bodies. The woman left, locking our cage behind her. He came back to the three of us with his weapon. Reaching into his pocket he pulled out the remote I knew too well.
"I'm giving you a choice. Whoever wins will come with me to the outside and get a peak of what's to be had out there." He said smiling, "Bur first-" He paused. Looking down at me he grinned wider, pressing a button on his remote. The collar shot more of the unknown chemical into my body, making every muscle tense. I strained myself to look in front of me to see the other children were experiencing this for the first time. I slowly calmed down, feeling it pulse through my system. I had a feeling to destroy. Without my control my body lunged at the children, but the chain cut me short. Their bodies were just out of reach, keeping me from my relentless attack.
The children were reacting to the drug as well. The girl didn't make the cut as she coughs out blood and falls to the floor. The boy, accepting the change immediately, lunges at the girl and starts ripping her apart. I watch as her throat is ripped out and thrown to my side. My body goes to attack but I keep myself from doing so. Slowly I bring myself back to the wall, trying to control my urge to kill. The boy still ripping the girl apart piece by piece. Her blood decorated me and the walls a deep crimson red.
"Why don't you attack number one? Have you lost interest?" He said calmly. As soon as the words left his mouth the boy lunged at him next, going in for the kill. But the stranger kicked him away, making the child hit the wall opposite of him. He put his attention back on me.
"I noticed with the recent experiments you've retracted from your attacks, learning from the substance we give you. You've grown smart child." He walked towards me and pressed the gun to my head. "It wouldn't hurt to see what happens when you lose control of your consciousness." With his last comment I heard the gun click. I saw him grin wildly. Then it went black with a bang.
I snapped my eyes open, the scene before me a crime scene. The boy that shot me was in pieces, with little pieces of him all over. His blood painted an abstract piece across the white sand canvas. Before long I noticed his heart in my hand. So I threw it to the ground in disgust.
"Gross" I said wiping my hand on my coat. The leader was lying a few feet ahead of me. My tomahawk was through his chest, blood soaked into the sand below him. I noticed my gas mask on the ground, covered in the white sand. I calmly walked over to it and placed it back on my features. I pulled my hood back on and trod to the dying male. He saw me walking up and reached out for me.
"You..." He gurgled out, "Monster!" I leaned down slow to the dying man and put my face in his own. I yanked my weapon from his chest and wiped the blood from its blade. With the fight over I started to walk away.
"I warned you. No one comes for the reaper." With that, my steps grew wider as I left the crime scene behind me. He continued to gurgle out sweet nothings as I walked, leaving him to die or become chimera food. But before I could get too far he started laughing, causing me to turn towards him once again. He lifted his hand up, a syringe clasped inside. 'Is that?'
Immediately, I started running towards the downed man, attempting to prevent him from injecting himself. He lifted his arm to the sky and smiled wickedly.
"Don't!" I screamed. He pierced himself in what was left of his neck. Before I could reach him, something sprout from his chest and hit me, sending me flying across the desert. I caught some ground and lifted myself up. Across the way I saw him, deformed and deranged. The slash that was in his chest now formed a long appendage with boils and veins popping out. His left side looked as if was melting with pieces falling into the sand. The closer he got the more he mutated into something no longer human. His skin peeled away to allow teeth and pink muscle to take its place. He stopped a few feet away and put his arms up.
"This feels amazing! I've turned into a god! They were right." He said with his voice deeper than before, "God, I could do anything like this HahahA." He whipped his head aggressively, causing cracks and pops to come out. "And I'll start with killing you!" He said pointing at me. The wide smile that formed was inhuman and in just a second he launched his deformed body at me, giving me little time to react.
'He's fast!' I thought to myself. I pulled my tomahawk to my chest as he came crashing into it, using his new appendage to clash against my weapon. I held my ground against him but my feet started to dig into the sand. All while he was laughing continuously. I quickly brought my leg up and kicked him, sending him away for a moment. Unsurprisingly, he got up almost quickly and walked slowly back to me.
"Hey, are you hungry? 'Cause I could really go for some meat right now!" He said looking up. Then he came flying once again, so I took this chance to run away. I dodged his advancements by a hair each time. Thankfully, tall rocks came into view.
'Perfect...' I thought to myself. I went to take cover behind one of the rocks but the creature jumped above me, attempting to land a surprise attack. He came down quickly landing right in front of me. The sudden impact caused sand to go flying, creating a good cover for me to escape. I hid myself behind a tall rock just a few paces from where we once were. Now I notice during the impact he took a good sized chunk from my side. My dark blood pooled quickly, giving me and idea. As the dust cleared, it was clear the chimera was chewing on the piece he took. He lifted his head and looked around for me, curious as to where I've gone to.
"Come piggy, sniff sniff, Where have you ran to?" He turned his head to my hiding spot and sniffed the air aggressively. "Found you!!" He said suddenly. He came quickly. I jumped up and perched myself above the spot where I just was, ready for my attack. He came around the corner excitedly but stopped to investigate the blood pool. His eyes followed the trail going up the formation, just to lay his beady eyes on me for only a second.
"You said you were a god?" I said, raising my weapon high above me, "How funny, because that right is mine!" I lept off the rock and brought the tomahawk through his neck, knocking off his head. It fell to the ground and rolled away, his body falling over quickly. I stood above it, taking a second to get my bearings back. Before long I approached the head and picked it up. I pulled the molars in the back and put them into a little brown bag kept at my side. They fell in and made a satisfying tink as they settled. I turned to look back at the chimera body behind me. Already, it was starting to decompose. Its black stink was spreading across the sand and eating away at the grains. I huffed and started my long trek to the nearest slum. I reached into my pocket and grabbed a tin carton filled with rolled tobacco. Placing one to my mouth I light it up, inhaling its musky flavor. Exhaling I thought to myself,
'What a day...'
