"I was sure it was right here! Find anything, Sandy?"

The Sandman turned to gaze sadly at Tooth and shook his head. Tooth raked her delicate hands through her feathers and stopped to think. Maybe Pitch took it when he came in here to look for Abby's teeth, she thought. They were looking for a small golden container with elaborate designs and a picture of a young girl with green eyes and dark hair on it.

   Abby's teeth.

Tooth had yet to tell the Guardians, but while Pitch was searching for the teeth, she ordered BabyTooth, her right hand fairy, to replace the real teeth with the fake ones. After Pitch had attacked the Palace three years earlier, Tooth made sure that for every tooth she and her fairies collected, there would be a fake one to replace it. North was the one who suggested it. He even helped to manufacture the false teeth.

Sandy and Tooth were looking for the real teeth, but they couldn't find them anywhere. They, along with BabyTooth, were the only ones who knew where the real teeth were being kept. Maybe they'd underestimated Pitch's abilities. They'd been searching for the real teeth ever since the day Pitch came and took the fake ones. Panic surged through the two of them as the hours drew on and there was still no sign of the teeth.

"Maybe he really did take them," Tooth muttered. Sandy put his hand on her shoulder and pointed towards a corner. If Tooth moved her head a certain way, the sun reflected off of something shiny and projected a glare that made her squint. She took a curious step towards it, then fluttered over to it and let out a sigh of relief. "Abby's teeth," she smiled. "We found them!" Sandy cocked an eyebrow at Tooth, but she didn't notice.

After securing the teeth in a leather pouch, they took off towards the North Pole, where Bunny, Jack, and North were waiting for them. Jack... Tooth sighed happily. Her crush on him was bigger than the childrens' belief in her. Sandy was the only one she could talk about it to, even though all of the Guardians knew it.

"I mean the way he looked at me was just...I don't know," she'd said one time. Sandy had silently chuckled and patted her knee, then left as the sun began to set. She'd been referring to the time when he became an official Guardian. She'd hugged him so tightly and so suddenly then, she shocked even herself. His hands on my hips, our faces touching ever so slightly...and not to mention those delicious lips...

Oh, get a hold of yourself!

   Crap, there he is!

As soon as her feet touched the platform, she ducked her head, fearing Jack would see how red her cheeks were. Feeling North's beefy hand on her shoulder, she looked up, but bowed her head again when she caught sight of Jack in the corner of her eye.

"Uh, Tooth?" North whispered. "Did you get the teeth?" Tooth's eyes widened and her face cooled. "Oh! Yes, um...the teeth. Right. I have those. Yes... I, the Tooth Fairy, have the...um, the teeth." She laughed nervously and reached into the pouch, grasping the cool metal and holding it above her head for all the Guardians to see. Jack smiled and put a welcoming hand on her shoulder. "Good job, Tooth," he said. Tooth smiled back and handed him the teeth, brushing her feathers behind her ears. She then felt Bunny place a large, soft paw on her shoulder. What's with everyone putting their hands on my shoulders? she thought sarcastically. "So that's what you two buggers have been up to, aye?" Sandy nodded and Tooth laughed. She never could help but at least giggle whenever Bunny talked. His accent always made her day brighter.

   Well, that and Jack.

Inside, North called the yetis to a meeting and disappeared inside his office. Sandy and Bunny stood in a corner, chatting, and Jack was by himself, wondering about the factory with a cheeky grin plastered on his (beautiful...) face. Reluctantly, she flew towards him, hovering just above the ground as they walked side-by-side - Tooth wasn't really walking, but you get the point.

"Great job getting the teeth," Jack murmured. Tooth smiled and glanced at the ground. "Thanks," she whispered. Jack chuckled. "You know, it's like I never get to hear your voice or see your face because you're always looking at the ground and speaking so quietly when you're around me. Mind telling me why? I'm lost." Tooth stopped in her tracks. A love confession, she thought. He's asking for a love confession. I bet that's it. That cheeky son of a-

Suddenly, the ground started to tremble. Jack grabbed Tooth's forearms to steady her as the shock of the shaking made her fall to the ground. He called out North's name, and North poked his head out of the office door. "This happens all the time," North assured. "No problem, my friends. No problem."

No problem, indeed, because just then, a long black shadow appeared on the floor, followed by a black robe, blue gray skin, yellow eyes, and an arm tightly grasping an unconscious child.
