"Happy birthday to you!" Everyone sang. Ash was in front of the big red cake, smiling and looking around. People were clapping and singing to Ash, but she didn't really enjoy it. She was only pretending to like it for the sake of her mother. Ash and her mother, Lucinda, didn't have a good relationship. Whenever they talked, it always managed to turn into an argument. Her step father was rarely home, so as Lucinda, but whenever he came home, he tried to build a good relationship with Ash. She didn't try; she hated both of them anyway.
"Make a wish!" People said. Ash looked up and smiled, then she looked back at the cake and closed her eyes. She made her wish and blew the candles. The people around her cheered.
As they enjoyed their cake, some music started playing to give the room a better environment. "Are you not going to eat cake?" asked Ximen. Ash shook her head, "I don't really like cake." Clearly both Ximen and Meizuo were confused, "I thought all girls would like cake." Ash laughed at them. Not her, she didn't like cake. She thought it was too sweet.
In the distance, Lukas was arguing with his parents. They were telling him about what he did and how it wasn't right. He wasn't really listening to them until his father grabbed his ear, "You're going to apologize to Ms. Yang. Right now." Lukas rolled his eyes and nodded, "Fine, okay. I'll go and apologize." His father let go of his ear and Lukas started walking towards Ash. When he got there, Si was ready to punch him again but Ash stopped him. Lukas chuckled, "Relax, I came here to apologize." Ash was skeptical at first, but before she said anything, Lukas bowed in front of her. "I'm sorry for the things I've done. It won't happen again." Si was ready to punch him again, "What a liar." Ash stopped him again; it would be bad enough to have a fight break out in her party.
"I forgive you." Ash said, tilting her head. Lukas stood up again and smiled, "Great." He grabbed her hand and kissed it, just to make his parents happy. Ash hated this but it was better to just go with it than cause a scene. Si was struggling to keep himself from standing up. Lei was trying to hold him back but he almost lost control himself. Lukas smiled at the guys and turned around to walk back to his parents. They seemed glad that he apologized; it would be embarrassing for them to apologize instead. Si pushed Lei aside and fixed his jacket, "I hate that guy with a passion. Why did you even accept his apology?" Ash grabbed her drink and took a sip, "Because it was better to just accept it than cause a scene."
Lucinda came in after doing something important and headed to Ash. Once she got there, she placed her hand on Ash's shoulder, "Honey, let's go sit with the Fan family." Ash glanced at her but quickly said, "I actually want to stay here, with my friends." Lucinda looked around the table and her aura was so cold, it definitely gave people shivers. She stopped at Si, "Aren't you the son of Daoming Feng?" He nodded, "Yes I am. Nice to meet you, Mrs. Yang." Ash was a little nervous since her mother probably wouldn't like Si or the rest. Lucinda turned to Ash and pulled her up, "You want to sit with these guys? I don't think so."
