I jerk the door open without bothering to look through the peephole to see... no one? I see a tiny foot disappearing down the driveway. I roll my eyes. Just a bunch of kids. Sighing, I step out and close the door behind me. It was 11:00 in the morning so the sun wasn't quite to its highest peak yet. I think I'll go to the public library. Locking the door, I begin my 10 minute run to town square.
I stopped at the library doors to catch my breath-not that I needed to of course. I'm in pretty good shape.

As I walked among the aisles with a few books already in my arms, I debated whether or not I should start reading them now or go to a coffee shop and read them there along with a latte. I walked through the tables and computers to see if there was enough room for me to read without having to rub shoulders with anyone when I caught the eye of a boy with blond hair sitting in front of one of many computers was looking at me. Great. I turn away quickly and walk away. Guess it's the cafe then.
I've despised blond boys ever since Nick-who just so happened to be blond. I know it's dumb but... I guess you could see it as like being castrophobic. Besides, I need a little paranoia in my life. My long, rotten life.
I went into the café and up to the counter.
"I would like a.... chocolate latte." I tell the girl behind the counter crisply. The girl smiles and begins putting the coffee together. Looking at the teenage girl, I couldn't help feeling really old.
"Enjoying life?" I asked pleasantly. The brown haired girl looks up with a faintly curious smile.
"Yes, I am...Thanks for asking. Are you?" I think my smile was turning into a grimace. I didn't expect her to ask me in turn.
"Yep. Gotta love it, won't be here forever ya know." I reply sarcastically with a shrug.
"Ya... but wouldn't it be great if we lived forever though?" The girl paused with my drink to go into whatever La la land she thought she would be in. I mentally groaned to myself.
"Trust me, you don't want to live forever." I snatch the cup from her and chucking a ten dollar bill at her. "Keep the change." I turn and walk away from the crushed girl, secretly wishing she knew.
I plopped into a seat in the farthest corner, setting my latte and books in front of me. Soon, I was deeply engrossed in the first book; The Hunger Games, and I didn't realize someone had sat in front of me until they cleared their throat. My head snapped up, ready to punch whoever it was.
The girl from the counter. I blinked at her in uncertainty. What does she want?
"Can we be friends?" She asks suddenly. My jaw drops before I can catch it. She continues before I could speak. "I mean-I really need a friend and you seem like a really down to earth person, and you look so smart and I think you need a friend too and we could be a really good team and I'm just so lonely." If she says 'and' one more time.... I force a smile.
"There are lots of kids who would be happy to be your friend." I lean back, gripping the book to my chest.
"How do you know?'' She scowls. "You're not a geek freak." I don't even know what that is. I sigh.
"You can't just ask someone to be your friend... friendship is a lot more than just... friends." Okay, so I'm not good with words, so what?
"But you look lonely-like you need a friend!" The girl exclaimed with pleading brown eyes. I paused. She was right about that; I did get lonely. The only 'friends' I ever had were when I was attending a college, but as soon as I was out, I never talked to them again. I give her a dead look. The girl giggled with delight and shot out her hand.
"I'm Cassie Dowel." She grins. I hesitantly shake her hand, not used to human contact.
"Jacey... Stoner."
"What a cute name!" Cassie gushes. "We need to get to know each other, do you have a boyfriend?" Really? That's her first question?
"No." I deadpanned.
"I don't either. Favorite color?"
".... Turquoise."
"Really! I love blue-and pink-and purple." She giggles. "Favorite hobby?" I can't believe I was sucked into this.
"Hacking." I say without thinking. A look of horror crosses her face, making me crack up. "Just kidding." I thump my book on the table and grab my latte, grinning. Her face relaxes. I hm and haw thoughtfully. I have way too many hobbies. "I guess reading."
"Cool! I love reading too!" Casey shrieks giddily. I force myself not to groan. Did I have to pick that one? "Favorite singer/actor?" I shrugged.
"Well, MY favorite singer is Ariana Grande! And my favorite actor is Dwayne Johnson!! Oh my Gosh, That guy is the Rock of my soul!" I cringe a little at how loud she is.
"Ya... he's a nice guy." I say quietly, more to myself than to her.
"Wait, what? You've met him?" Cassie asks, confused. Dang, I shouldn't have said anything. I shrugged again.
"Ya, so?"
"OH MY GO-
"Shhhh!" I whisper loudly at her, glancing around. She clamped both hands to her mouth to muffle her squeal. "Don't you have work to do?" I whisper harshly. She shakes her head violently.
"It's my lunch break." She grins. "Can I meet him?"
"Sure, go ahead." I lean back, with a careless wave at her.
"No, I mean... can you get me an inside pass to talk to him and get his autograph?"
"What? No, I haven't spoken to him in years." I take a slurp of coffee. I notice her disappointment, but ignore it.
"How did you meet him?" Cassie asks.
"I ran into him." I put the cup down. I didn't mention that I had been stealing things from him in his own home when I had ran into him in the dark. Looking back, I couldn't help but smile. Dwayne Johnson and been so nice to me, despite knowing that I had been stealing from him. He let me sleep in his guest room and told me I could stay for as long as I like. It was in a time in my life when I had nothing. Living on the streets and living it dangerously. I lived with The Rock for months, living the high life-but I was set on paying him back for the kindness he showed. The cook let me help her in the kitchens at meal times, I worked alongside the maids with the cleaning, I even asked Dwayne if I could be his body guard. He laughed pretty hard about that. I did not. I told him I knew martial arts and would be able to protect him just fine. He said he'll think about it.
I was also into street fighting back then as well, going a little far with my immortality. I won every match I came across. Having been doing kárate, Kung Fu, Jui jitsu, And TKD for many years, I could knock the strongest out, I could slip out of the deadliest holds. I was unstoppable according to my homeless fans-even the cops got into it, cheering just as loud as anybody else.
"Jacey? Jacey?" My mind snaps back to reality as my name is being called. My eyes focus on Cassie who is staring at me.
"What?" I ask tiredly, shaking my head slightly to clear it.
"Where do you want to hang out?" She asked. I stare at her. No. No way am I going to be hanging out and sleeping over all of a sudden. I have to get rid of this girl somehow. I ended up giving her an evil grin.
"Do you like skydiving?"
