The next day, Sofia, Hugo, and Garrick watched as the others auditioned for the other roles.
"I'm really looking forward to this ballet," Sofia beamed.
"So am I," Hugo concurred. "It's not every day—or at least every year—you get to perform a ballet on ice. Too bad we didn't get to do this at Royal Prep. All we did was perform at ballet recitals."
"Well, now that you're in a different school, you'll get to do your favorite sports in different ways," Garrick smiled.
After class, Miss Pamela said, "Okay, class, we'll have rehearsals during our classes this week. On Saturday, we'll make our props costumes for the ballet."
The students really liked the sound of that.
That evening, Sofia was in her bedroom, designing her costume for the ballet when there was a knock at her door. "Come in," she called.
Amber entered, feeling very happy. "Sofia, I have exciting news!" she beamed. "Hildegard and Clio are coming!"
"Really?" Sofia asked. "I haven't seen them since the graduation party."
"I know, and it'll be great to see them again this Saturday," Amber beamed. "Oh, it'll be like in the old days."
But then Sofia's smile dropped. "But this Saturday, the ice-dancing class is meeting together to make our props and costumes," she frowned.
Amber was a little baffled by this. "But you're designing your costume right now," she pointed out.
"I'm only planning it out, Amber—I'm actually going to make it with the class on Saturday," Sofia reminded her.
"Well, if you make your costume here, then you'd stay and spend time with us," Amber suggested.
"We have to make the props for the ballet, too, Amber," Sofia reminded her sister. "Lots of students at Corinthian Sports are helping with the props, though."
Amber didn't understand why Sofia was going to work this Saturday. "Then why can't you let them make the props and stay here?" she asked.
"I would, but I'm a cast member of the ballet and a student of the ice-dancing class—therefore, it's only fair that I pitch in and help out," Sofia told her. "But don't worry—the ballet is next month, so it'll be over by then. Hugo's family is even hosting a Wassalia party, and they're inviting all our friends."
"I suppose," Amber sighed. She really wanted Sofia to join her and her old friends.
That Saturday, Sofia was just about ready to go when Amber, Hildegard, and Clio came.
"Sofia!" Clio beamed. She went over and hugged Sofia tightly.
"Great to see you again, Sofia," Hildegard grinned.
"It's great to see you both again," Sofia smiled. "Well, I'd like to stay and talk, but I have to get a move on. I'll see you when I have the chance." She waved to her sister and ex-classmates as she went off, leaving Amber a little disappointed in her.
"What's your sister up to, Amber?" Hildegard asked.
"Her Enchanted Ice-Dancing class is putting on an ice-dancing ballet called The Nutcracker, and she and Prince Hugo are the leading characters: Clara and the Nutcracker," Amber replied.
"Fun," Clio smiled. "I wish we'd done something like that at Royal Prep."
"Well, we would have if we had enough students in our ice-dancing class," Amber declared. "I'm happy for Sofia, but now she's busy with the ballet. She has to practice her routine with Hugo and help make props."
"Well, being the leading actress can make you busy," Clio pointed out. She remembered playing the lead in the Royal Prep play Hello Polly.
"She didn't used to be this busy when we did plays," Amber declared.
"Neither did we," Hildegard told her. "Now that we're in different schools, we're busier than we used to be."
"Maybe you just miss Sofia," Clio declared.
"Well, we are at separate schools now," Amber shrugged. "She said she'd be busy for a month, but that feels like a long time."
