Sunlight shone through my windows ,partly blinding me. I must have forgotten to close my curtains. I groaned and sat up thinking about yesterday . My heart did a little flip when I remember that we were going to get my first list today. I pulled on a blue ruffled dress, one that Biana's mom had gotten me when I first showed up here. I went through my morning routine quickly and bounded down stairs. Grady was sitting at the table eating I don't even wanna know what, it was a small greenish slug looking thing and when he popped it into his mouth I had to hold back a gag. Edaline smiled when she saw me and conjured some mallowmelt.
I smiled, " Thanks mom" , I had finally gotten used to calling them mom and dad even after everything had happened.
"Are you ready to go", Grady asked. I had stuffed like 3 pieces of mallow melt in my mouth so I held up a finger and chewed as fast as possible while trying not to choke. I gave up and nodded. Grady and Edaline made their way to the leapmaster and I followed still trying to chew the mallowmelt.
We arrived at a beautiful crystal building with the word matchmakers spelt in rubies on the doors. As we walked in several heads turned toward me and started to whisper , I did not have to be able to hear them, I knew what they were saying. That's her , the one who has the brown eyes , she's not like us , she is dangerous ,etc.
I held my head high and walked toward the front desk. A elf with curly red hair and baby blue eyes greeted us and asked me for my name. I looked to Grady and Edaline but all they did was nod . After every thing I have done and been through they wanted me to do THIS on my own, this to be fair was far less scary but every bit as nerve racking. I gave her my name and she told me to wait their as she went back to grab my list. I took a deep breath as she walked in and handed me the scroll that basically held my future. (Not rlly but y'all get it lol) They looked at me expecting me to open it now but I asked to wait till I got home . They nodded and we glittered back home.
"I am gonna open it in my room" I said way to awkwardly. I turned and ran upstairs and slammed the door turning to find Keefe smirking again.
Ugh what is it and him smirking can't he smile like a regular person , I thought.
"You made it" I said excitedly. I sat on my bed facing him.
"Of course Foster, are your ready?" He asked nodding toward the school in my hands. I nodded nervously fumbling with the seal.
He laid his hand on my and said "Why don't we switch?". I nodded handing him mine as he handed me his.
Our eyes met as we opened each other scrolls.
I looked down and read my name as number one on his list and when I looked his smile told me his name had been the top pick as well.
I jumped up practically tackling him but his strong legs held fast. I looked up smiling and his eyes shone like perfect ice, beautiful no matter how many cracks, and I realized then that the cracks are just one of the things that made him amazing. He leaned down to kiss me and my eyes fluttered shut. Just as our lips touched the door flung open and I jumped back to fine Grady and Edaline standing there.
"Are we interrupting something?"Grady asked
Keefe cleared his throat,"n-no sir"
Grady did not look convinced as he leaned down and picked up the scrolls reading them over carefully.
I letting out a long sigh he said "You are not my first choice but if you really love her and she really love you then you have my blessing. Keefe looked at me and said without hesitation " I love her more that I could even express and I want to protect her from everything".
I looked at him and said "I love you too more than you know." I smiled at Keefe and Edaline asked Keefe to join us for dinner.
"One more thing I think we should keep Keefe and I quiet for now so no feelings get hurt," I said sneaking a glance at Keefe.
"I agree" he said.
Grady and Edaline headed down stairs leaving me and Keefe alone. I turned around to set the scrolls on my bed and thats when he attacked.
