Did you miss me

All good

-That's when he attacked.

I felt his hands land on my sides and I tried to run but it was no use Keefe jumped me, pinning me to the bed and tickling me till I was snorting and laughing at the same time. I tried to wack him with every pillow on my bed but nothing could stop him. I even screamed for my pet imp named Iggy to help but he was too busy snoring like a chainsaw, as usual. I then tried the last possible thing I could think of which I really couldn't think because I was being tickled so hard. I turned my head away no longer smiling and let my body go limp acting like I had given up. Keefe smiled down at me a relaxed his grip. Just as he relaxed I jerked my head back towards him and smiled. His smiled was replaced by shock as I pushed him as hard as possible leaving him teetering on the edge of the bed. I got up and put my finger on his nose and pushed slightly. I started laughing until two hands garbed mine pulling me on top of him on the floor. I put my hand over his eyes and gave him a quick kiss, then rolled over beside him. I laid there gasping for breath and tried to slow my breathing so I could talk .  

 "You cheated Foster" Keefe said while sporting his best smirk. 

"I'm afraid not" I said out of breath. 

 He grabbed my hand half dragging  me to the balcony.  "Huh!" I said tripping over my own feet,rug ,Ella , clothes and just about everything else on the floor in sight. But with Keefe's help I got there. I stood there not knowing what he was going to do. Suddenly I felt his weight full force and his arms wrap around me tightly. What!  Then  something wet dropped on my shoulder followed by more and I heard a quiet sob. "Keefe, what is it, what is wrong!" I said panicked.

"Nothing, absolutely nothing" he said his voice wavering. I backed up and took his face in my hands using my thumbs to wipe his cheeks and searched his eyes. 

"Then what?" I asked.

His voice was small and it was wavering as he said "Someone loves me" as more tears streamed down his face.  I swallowed a cry and felt tears rushing to my eyes, then I pulled him in and rubbed his back. I knew every thought running through his head and not because I read his mind but because  i knew him , I knew how he laughed and made jokes to cover up how much he was broken. I knew how he wished his dad was proud of him just because he was himself and how he wished his mom loved him and took care of him not just because he was some project but because he was her son .How much he longed to be loved by the people he claimed to hate the most.  

"Of course I love you I wouldn't have it any other way, I promise" I whispered into his ear. "Don't doubt it for a second, everything you do you try to prove yourself to me and others but you don't have too you are amazing the way you are, never change. Promise me Keefe. Promise me!" I said my voice cracking as I held him tight, because I was afraid to let him go. Starightining up to look at me his eyes shone with a fire determination and passion to love and courage to keep going. 

"I will" he said his voice strong as he wrapped his arms around me and held me like he would never let me go. Squeezing hard one last time he took a deep breathe and smiled.  Still being strong and stubborn . I thought.

Just as we walked back into my room we heard Grady call us down for supper. when we got to the kitchen table it had already be set and the food hot and ready. I dug in immediately. The soup was a brownish color with what looked like the green film over a dirty lake but tasted like a human food called ramen noodles that she used to eat almost daily. While they ate Grady and Edaline shared crazy stories about the animals the worked with that left us all laughing. When dinner was over Keefe said his goodbyes and I walked him out. He turned and leaned down and I closed my eyes for a kiss but it didn't come. And just as I was gonna ask what he was doing.

 He whispered "Lets wait for some actual privacy."

        "Whaaa..." I started to say but then I looked over and saw Grady peeking through the window. When he saw us looking he jumped up and hit his head on the bookshelf above sending Keefe and I into a laughing fit. Opening the door Grady looked at us and said " You didn't see that" then he disappeared back into the house. I looked at Keefe and tried not to laugh but I ended up snorting and laughing even harder than before. Taking a few deep breaths I gave Keefe a hug and waved goodbye. As he was glittering away he winked at me sending my heart beat faster. 

Running inside I shouted I love you and goodnight to Grady and Edlaine. Reaching my room I closed the door and jumped onto my bed with a sigh. I grabbed Ella and buried my face into the soft worn fabric, thinking of no one or anything else but Keefe. My belly and head filled with excitement that I couldn't control. I took a deep breath trying to calm my racing heart. I closed my eyes and snuggled under my covers with Ella. It was a long time before I fell asleep my mind was in a constant repeat of everything good and bad. But all I knew was that I had him and he had me and nothing was gonna stop me from protecting him. I drifted to sleep with a hcontent heart and a smile on my face ready to face tomorrow and all the days to come.

                                                                  Or so I thought .
