SEVEN

Fletcher came home from the grocery store after buying dinosaur chicken nuggets for him and Olive. He put them in the oven for them to eat and while the nuggets were baking, Fletcher took it as an opportunity to tell Olive more facts since she was sitting at the island reading. With her phone broken, she had nothing to do.

"Hey, did you know that babies are born without kneecaps*?" blurted out Fletcher, making Olive look up from her book.

"Interesting, but why do I need to know that?"

Fletcher shrugged. "Just thought you'd want to know some random facts."

"I think I can live without your facts, thanks," said Olive getting back to her book.

"Not after you hear this one," Fletcher said, getting hyped. "Bet you didn't know that a women's heart beats faster than a man's?"

Olive closed her book and set it down on the island top. "You know you're facts are starting to get on my nerves. Here I am trying to read and every second you spewing out a useless information."

Fletcher thought it was hilarious that this time Olive was annoyed the random facts being thrown at her when he used to be on the other end. He felt funny about annoying her, but when he thought how it could help regain her memory he would continue with the factoids and whatever he could to get her to remember him.

"Want to know something else interesting?" said Fletcher. "People with blue eyes can see better in the dark. You have blue eyes? Do you think that's true?"

Olive hopped off the stool, making her way to Fletcher. "Listen," she huffed. She stuck her nose close to his face, breathing on him. Olive pierced her eyes into his then suddenly she lost her words. His resting face was really cute and his hair looked so soft, she almost wanted to touch it just to confirm. It was like it was the first time she really *looked* at Fletcher's face because all this time she tried not to make eye contact for too long. Olive noticed her heart beat escalating coincidently after that fact about heartbeats. She wondered if Fletcher's heart was beating fast or if it even rose at all.

When she managed to find her voice again, she continued. "Look, I don't know what you're trying to get at and why you're annoying me on purpose, but-" Olive stumbled backwards, her legs almost giving out. Her vision blurred for a split second. Fletcher's hand reached out and she grabbed it allowing him to pull her up before plummeting to the floor.

"Woah are you okay?" asked Fletcher as he pulled her to her feet. Both were breathing heavily as their eyes locked; Olive still gripping Fletcher's hand. For a brief moment that didn't exchanged words.

Olive rubbed her head. "I'm going to check if my phone is ready," she said, letting go of Fletcher's hand and walking away towards the door. She moved her hand around, looking down at it. That moment when she held his hand, something felt odd, familiar even—like she had held his hand *before*. The feeling was shook when Fletcher made it to the door before she did.

"Let me drive you," Fletcher offered. "It's actually pretty cold out today."

At first Olive wanted to refuse, but walking to Angus's shop became boring and quite long so she accepted. In the car, Fletcher popped in a CD and turned the volume up. A digital bass line started to fill the car. Olive thought nothing of it at first, just staring out the window. But when song progressed, it instantly became her favorite.

"What song is this?" she asked, looking at the side of Fletcher's face as he kept eyes on the road.

"White Sky by Vampire Weekend," he replied, glancing at her for a second.
