"Is this someone's idea of a joke?" Freddy said angrily.
"What is this?" Candy asked. "I don't understand what this message means."
Of course you don't Barbie. You weren't there that night. Heck none of us knew you at the time.
Wendy had calmed down but she was still shaking like a scared cat.
I pulled Michelle to a corner. "Do you think we should tell them?"
"Are you crazy Olivia? I don't want everyone to know I donated my eggs! And think what that's going to do to Wendy and Freddy's marriage. They're already on thin ice. Plus like you said, we don't know for sure if it's my child Wendy is carrying."
"Shit I haven't thought of that," I said truthfully. I was so tired and couldn't think straight.
"And you're terrified of everyone else finding out about your past with Kylie?" she said.
That was true. The idea of my friends finding out terrified me, even though it shouldn't be a big deal.
"Michelle what are we going to do?"
"I don't know," she said. Dang blast it. I don't remember a single instant where she had an answer. Totally useless.
"At least we know one thing for sure," Timmy said.
The whole room grew quiet.
"Which is?" Seth said."It's one of us, like duh," Timmy said.
Everyone looked at each other suspiciously, and before I could fathom what happened, they started accusing one another.
This is what I heard:
"You're behind this!"
"Me? I was asleep the time it happened!""Liar, you got up for a smoke."
"No no it's you," I heard another voice say.
"Dude, I was on the phone."
"Guys guys stop fighting, this isn't helping!"
"Wendy's right you guys. We need to resolve this issue in a calm manner."
Michelle and I looked at one another, not knowing what to do.
"You two seem oddly suspicious," Kevin said suddenly.
"Excuse me?" I said. What was this beaver talking about?
"Think about it," Kevin continued. "You two have been gone for an hour, and by the time you came back, we all received this text message."
The room turned into a commotion again.
"Don't you dare accuse us of this," Michelle said angrily.
"Kevin has a point though," Sara said. "The timing is pretty suspicious."
"Is this true?" Wendy said, looking at us.
"Wendy," I said, approaching her. "You've known us for almost ten years. Do you really think we would do such a thing?"
She didn't say another word.
"Well, do you have any kind of proof that you guys didn't do it?" Seth said.
I couldn't believe this. I was pissed off. Part of me wanted to scream and show them the text message I got from A but I knew if I did, my life would be over. I can't believe my own friends would think I would threaten them.
"Yes," Michelle said, "we can prove it."
She drew out her phone from her pocket.
Michelle, no, don't. She was going to tell them about her egg donation and I knew how difficult it was going to be for her.
