Hello my name Hans Schmidt. I have arrived from the lab. The story I am about to tell you has been in the works for 4 years. The great war was the most horrific time I've ever been through. My job in the war was a dangerous one. I was in control of making the chemicals used during The Great War. There are many times when I look back on what I created and wonder what kind of monster I was. In 1899 the use of chemical weapons were banned. However we needed any power we could get. At first we started with stunning the enemies with tear gas, but then it grew too so much more, but that's for later in the story.

1914

When I was just 23 I was a young scientist fresh out of school. I was the smartest kid in my class. Then a man came to our college graduation looking for new minds to work in labs to create weapons for the war. ¨We need brave smart young minds to help us make equipment to fight in the war¨ the man said with his bold booming voice. As a young mind who didn't understand much of what war ment I jumped onto the opportunity. After the graduation ceremony ended I walked up to the man. ¨Sir I want to volunteer to make equipment.¨ the man nodded. ¨What is your name young man.¨ ¨My name is Hans.¨ He reached out to shake my hand.¨My name is Rick. Welcome to the team.¨ From then on my life was never the same. Two weeks later I was all packed up and ready to move to the lab. It was in the middle of the desert so no one could get hurt from our testings and from the gasses we would manufacture. We started making new kinds of chemicals to stun soldiers. My job was to pack the containers the gas was in. I was disappointed at first because my job wasn't a major one, but then I understood that someone had to do it. Many things were happening while the war was among us. I made plenty of friends. John, the strong one, was my main friend. He worked with me in the back. He loaded the chemicals into the trucks. William was the director of us. He made sure all the containers were safely packaged. Benjamin nailed the boxes shut. These were my friends during this long time. We had plenty of moments where tear gas containers would drop and burst, but it wasn't too bad. The mistakes we made after that are the ones that impacted us the most. We all where boosted up that year because we all had the same skills in college. We finally started making chemicals. I looked at my work station. Willam was across from me; Benjamin was in front and John was on the other side of me. We all started working making tear gas for the war.

1 year later

1915

As we all where working on tear gas Rick walked in. ¨I have orders from headquarters. We need a more effective gas.¨ he said. Benjamin looked at him. ¨More effective, what does that even mean?" ¨it means the gas needs to be fatal. Headquarters wants us to use this new type of gas. Chlorine.¨ William looked startled. ¨Chlorine?¨ ¨yeah chlorine so be careful because it's dangerous.¨ I sat at my desk and looked that the new recipe we were using. ¨So now we're making gas to kill. Not what I was expecting.¨ a new team joined us in making the chemicals. Marion, Luther, Dale, Franklin, and Roger were new the room started to fill up. We began working on the new gas and things got deadly really quickly. We would be clearing the lab almost every week because a leak in the containers or a mistake in the mixing process. However we made it out alive. When we were eating lunch or dinner we would listen to the radio to hear what President Roosevelt had to say. It was motivational and it helped us keep trying to make more effective chemical weapons. We were doing pretty great but germany always had one foot in front of us. They were in the lead when it came to manufacturing chemical weapons. They were using tear gas longer than we were. They actually invented chlorine gas weapons. On the morning of April 22 they attacked the allied soldiers with 150 tons of deadly chlorine gas against two French colonial divisions at Ypres, Belgium. We never seen what the stuff did up close until the day when Dale was working with the gas. The container already had a small leak, we didn't know it was there. Then he dropped it and the gas bursted. The gas was a pale green and it smelled like pool water we all jumped up and ran to the exit. Dale tripped over his shoe string while we were evacuating. We all got out. Dales screams came out as nails on a chalkboard. The chlorine got in his lungs and started corroding his lungs. The chlorine suffocated him, however that was not the deadliest gas we had our hands on. We could tell he was in pain but we could not do anything to save him. Luther seemed to be the most affected by the loss of Dale. Production still went on. We all where safe from the gas after that because they later equipped us with gas masks. Even if we did bust a can we would be okay. William and Franklin were assigned a new team. They were moved to a different location where they could work on a new type of gas. The gasses name was phosgene. It was clear and its smell was practically not there it had pretty much the same effect as chlorine but it was harder to detect. The effects of this gas were not at all immediate. one could ingest it but suffer no ill effects for several hours. The saddest moment I can remember was a moment in the shelter. We were listening to the radio in December. The Britons were in the trenches a little before Christmas. The Germans launched the deadly gas disabling more than 1000 men. It was devastating. The gas we were creating was responsible for three quarter of the deaths in the war. We had ourselves a nice Christmas that year it was sad but we had a nice dinner.

1916

This was the year when the monster inside of us grew to bigger heights. We were so eager to win we created a deadly substance. John, Marion, and Luther all left the lab to go fight in the actual war. That left Benjamin, Franklin, and Roger to help us create the most painful way death could occur for a human. The effects of the gas were awful. Gas masks didn't do the trick anymore. The gas was like acid to the skin. It gave their skin yellow blisters. The gas settled on the ground and made it oily. It would lay there for days. Most people were blinded if they were not killed by the substance, or they had to deal with respiratory problems. We called this deadly chemical Mustard Gas. It smelled horrible like onions or mustard. One day i was thinking deeply while making it. Why was I doing this? Was it worth it? Suddenly out of nowhere a huge explosion came from outside. We all ran outside trying to see what happened. I looked up at the sky seeing a large amounts of bombs being dropped from a distance. I then realized they were headed to our base. We all raced to a truck trying to escape. I manage to start one up. Franklin got in as I drove away. Benjamin chased after us but was shot by one of the helicopters shooting at us. I finally understood what was going on. They were killing us who were making the chemicals. Roger was in the lab as the attack happened. The mustard gas exploded and filled the entire room sadly Roger died the most horrific death I could think of. However this was not the time to mourn. I drove away not knowing where I was going. I just knew there was no way back there was safe. Franklin's breath was uneven. I looked at him.¨ where safe for now¨ I said trying to sound hopeful. It came out a bit pitiful but he accepted it either way. We did not celebrate long. We were driving and then the next minute we were turned over. Not able to drive. A long ringing noise was all I could hear. Suddenly a hand appeared it had something in it. The logo on it was yellow and black. It had six triangles shaped figures on it. There was a black dot holding the three black triangles together. I knew instantly what the logo ment. I cried out no for some reason. Why would they not drop it. At least I tried though. There were two more hands that came in with a can that read ¨Chlorine" the other can read ¨Phosgene¨ the final can shimmered like it was just made. ¨Mustard gas¨ all three were dropped in the flipped car I was in. All three went off at the same time. Franklin started praying. I tried blowing the gas away but that made it worse. The different chemicals mixed together. My skin burned as i heard franklin's prayers turn into screams. The screams didn't last long though. They were replaced with scratchy wheezing. I could feel my lung corrode away as my skin blistered. They threw a flame on the truck as the last thing i ever saw was franklin crying. Then boom!

So how am I telling this story to you now? Well the answer is simple. I am merely a ghoul, a ghost, a spirit. I now haunt the abandoned lab. It's been awhile since Ive had any company. Wont you come and visit me? Ill be waiting.
