Hermione paced nervously around the living room at James and Lily’s house, nervously awaiting the arrival of the others. What if they didn’t believe her? What if she couldn’t save them? What if they didn’t come? What if Snape did come and got into a giant fight with Sirius and James? The worrying never stopped. Ron, noticing her pacing, went over and put a calming hand on her arm.
“Hermione, everything will go as planned, I promise,” he said sincerely.
“What if it doesn’t, Ron?” Hermione snapped. “What if we are just interfering with time?”
“Hermione, you were the one the told me this would all be ok,” said Ron, rubbing slow circles on Hermione’s arm. “If you didn’t really believe that it would be, we wouldn’t be here right now.”
“Yeah, but-“ Hermione started.
“Hey, you lot!” James yelled as he came in the front door. “Molly and Arthur are coming after they drop Bill, Charlie, and Percy off at Muriel’s. They’re bringing the twins with them.”
“They’re bringing Fred and George?” Ron asked James. “Merlin, this is going to be an interesting day.”
“Why do you say that, Ron?” asked Lily.
“Well,” Ron hesitated, glancing at Hermione. “Fred and George have always been trouble makers. According to mum, their first word was ‘boom’ when they blew up a spider in front of me as a baby.”
“It’s going to be worse if they’re around James and Sirius at a young age,” said Lily with a glance at James. “They swear like sailors sometimes.”
“What’s a sailor?” asked Sirius, popping into the room.
“Never mind, Sirius,” Lily said with a shake of her head. “What did Mad-Eye say?”
“He’s supposed to be coming,” Sirius said with an eye roll. “That man hexed me twice! And he Disapparated before I Flooed out, so he should be here any second.”
A knock sounded on the front door and Sirius hid behind the mantle.
“Sirius, you berk! It’s just Molly and Arthur!” James called into the living room.
Sirius sighed and came out into the front hall, ready to greet the Weasleys. Seeing the door open once more, he noticed that Mad-Eye had arrived right behind them. “James!” he shrieked, running out of the room.
The fireplace burned to life once more and allowed Remus to stumble out of it. “Dumbledore is Apparating here shortly,” he said, shaking off the ashes from the fire.
“Good, now all we need to do is wait for Frank’s response from Snape,” said Ron.
As if on cue, Frank Apparated into the Potter’s living room.“Snape said that he would come, but he’s leaving the second that James and Sirius try something,” Frank said, smirking slightly at the two Marauders.
“Don’t mess this up,” Hermione threatened. “He’s really important to the future.”
James and Sirius looked at each other before nodding defeat.
“They’ll be good,” Remus and Lily promised Hermione.
Once more, a knock was heard at the door. Lily hastened to greet the newcomer, hoping that it was just Dumbledore. She wasn’t sure if she was ready to see Snape yet.
“Hello, Professor!” Lily greeted brightly, not noticing the sullen character behind Dumbledore.
Dumbledore let out a soft chuckle and stepped to the side. “I believe that young Severus was requesting entry as well, my dear.”
